Since we have a Night Owl thread, I figured I would create an Early Bird thread.

I personally dislike the night, and I always go to bed at 9-10pm. I can't keep my eyes open past 9:30pm. I always wake up at 6:00am.

I have heard, in a drip of leaves,
A slight song,
After the midnight cries.
...As a blind man, lifting a curtain, knows it is morning,
I know this change:
On one side of silence there is no smile;
But when I breathe with the birds,
The spirit of wrath becomes the spirit of blessing...

Theodore Roethke, Journey To The Interior

Good morning all early birds. :)

Same here, though I tend to stop sleeping between 5 and 5:30 and usually get up a bit after 6. Sleeping in on weekends usually means til 7 or 8 at the latest. I just feel like the day is lost if I sleep in any longer, and I usually hate myself for it.

Well if I get hired at this coffee chain everyone recognizes I've calculated I'll have to be up at 2am to get there on time.

But you'll have all the coffee you can drink once you get there.
If it's the ONE I'm thinking of, my wife used to work there. They had great benefits. Take advantage of the stock buying plan.

I like to get up early and chill out with some coffee. I have small kids, so the pre-dawn hours are about the only time and can get a minute to myself.

10:45pm, up at 5:15am.
Every day...
DH you don't have to have kids to enjoy that.
I have a wife and 2 dogs that stay asleep for the first 45 minutes of my day.
But as soon as the Heeler starts barking, the pack is up.
Then about 10 seconds later I'll hear some growling, and 3 steps through the kitchen before I see "Scarlett."
Like a lot of Heelers, she can be quiet but why?
It doesn't annoy the Bedlington as much that way. :D

Yes, that's the place ;). I've been a customer at one of their locations for years. I went in yesterday after a job interview. The baristas were all poking fun of my professional attire, as they'd never seen me without jeans and a ballcap. When I told them I'd been looking for a job, they pretty much ordered me to apply there, which I did last night. So here's to hoping I have an in.
Being a polite customer pays dividends.

6:00 am? The sun's already up and I'm an hour late for work.

I usually get up at 4:30 on a work night, around 6:00 on the weekend. I enjoy watching the sun come up. It's one of my favorite times of day (along with sunset). It's also one if my favorite times of the day to enjoy a nice cigar.

For eight years I got up at 3 am and had to be at my desk by 315 am writing the copy for the day's newscasts, in preparation for my first broadcast at 530 am. My workday ended at 1pm and I was in bed every night by 730 pm.

I did that schedule for as long as I could physically endure it, but when I was 34 years old I decided I'd had enough. To this day I have nightmares about having to go back to that job.

It did make one lasting impression on me, though -- I find staying up past midnight to be intolerable. When I have to do it I end up even crankier than usual the next day, and if I do it too often I get debilitating migraines that knock me off my feet for two days or more. Once you've lived the Early Bird life, the night life holds no allure.

These days I'm usually awake at 5 am, but only long enough to shut the cat out of the bedroom. Then I go back to bed and stay there till 8.

I can (barely) remember the days when I burned the candle at both ends, working in beer joint all night then would leave there and head straight for a construction site to start work by 6 a.m. When I got off that job around 2 or 3 in the afternoon I would catch some sleep for a few hours. That lifestyle nearly put me in an early grave and I had to abandon it around the time I turned 30.

I go to bed around midnight and 2:00 Am and get up between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM because I can't sleep for more than three hours at a time. If I go to bed early that only means that I'll be up at midnight or 2:00 AM.

I can (barely) remember the days when I burned the candle at both ends...

When I was in law school I worked as an overnight trade specialist at a commodity firm; sleep was where it was found,
and the candle had burned away long before I was asked one night to place a sell order for a bond contract. I left at 06:00,
and was awakened later that morning by an ass-chewing telephone call. Apparently the contract had been bought in Dublin, Ireland
but had already been sold in New York, and the firm had to step in and settle for a $700 loss. I explained what had happened,
thought the matter was settled, but when I walked in at 21:00 that nite it all hit the fan again. I explained the previous nite once again
to several managers and the floor boss; even the Hong Kong desk boss wanted to know the story. And it did not go over very well.
Later that nite things began to change for the better and the floor boss told me to forget it. But I had had enough, and let it be known
that unless the firm tendered apology by end-of-shift, my defacto resignation would apply. I stayed until 06:30, packed my brief case,
and left the firm. Got off the train later, and stopped for a cup of coffee at a local convenience store-that coincidentally needed
an overnite attendant. I inquired and was hired on the spot. Although the pay cut was drastic, I never regretted it. :coffee:

When I wake up in the early morning, I feel sleepy for 1-2 minutes.
Then my body wakes up & I feel great .

If I linger in bed after I awaken, I get headaches & feel sluggish for the rest of the day.

I don't require an alarm clock to wake up.

I have a cat that sees to it that I'm awake by 6 am.

For 28+ years I woke up @ 4 am to go cover the early morning "news" for the local
tv station.
But carrying a camera for such a long time took it's toll on my back. I'm retired now.
But overall, I'm fit to play tennis, jog or ride my bike 24/7. :D

I used to love to watch the sun rise over the flight line. I also loved when the sun was setting, the pinging sound of the radial engines cooling down, a magical sound! Last night we did the Morgan Adams Concours d'Elegance, with a 1905 Harley. Then we went to a bar and listened to Paula Nelson, Willie's daughter sing, not very good I'm afraid. Back in bed at 3:00 AM. I didn't do that as a teenager, something happened after my surgery, now I'm a night owl.

My habits changed over time.
While I was in school, I stayed up late, but managed to get up early. Sure, my mental skills and my motor-functions weren't much.. but no one truly cared, we all looked like zombies back then. It was much more important to stay up and wathch "that movie" (because everyone saw it). Sleeping was overrated back then.
When I ended school, sleeping became "the thing to do". I was not employed, there was not many things to be done (read: I chose no to do much, but sit around and "search" for the job online).
Then I got a job.
Nowadays, I can't imagine not being up by 7:00 AM on a weekend. Since, on weekdays, I get up at 5:30 (my job starts at 7:00 AM). Oh, how we change in time.. :D
