DVD region question

Why oh, why do they do this to us? Is it just territorial smugness? There's these terrific used book and video stores in Hagerstown and Frederick, MD called Wonder Book and Video that were even rated in the top ten used book stores nationwide by USA Today. I was in one of them yesterday and saw Ice Cold in Alex and Reach for the Sky, but both were Region 2. None of my DVD players are region free. I could have gotten both for $10, but hells bells I can't watch them. What about those built into the computers; are they usually region free or not. How much do region free players go for? This is why I overlook piracy, black market, and bootleg copies. If they're not going to be reasonable and work with the consumer, then they get what they deserve.

Computer players, if not hacked...tend to have 5 switches before they freeze into a region.

But erm ....have you looked up your player models online with the words 'region free hack' included in the google?

my 30 dollar magnavox player was a -cinch- to find and follow the directions to make it region free......

You can find good region free players fairly cheap now and then you won't have to "cross over to the dark side" and support bootleggers or pirates. Besides the "hacks" for stand alone players you might look for some software that will fool your PC or laptop into playing whichever region you choose and not worry about getting "locked out". I've found that even when the films that I want to own are released here in the U.S. that the PAL version may be better (Aspect ratio, uncut, better picture and sound, etc.) You may want to shop around for a unit with a good PAL to NTSC converter then.

Let me recommend www.hkflix.com. The company is out of Hawaii and has quality machines at fair prices. You can even put in the specs you want and the website offers you the models that match.

They also have a fantastic assortment of martial arts movies from around the globe.
