Does this hat exist?

Hey, I'm after a summer hat. What I'm looking for is a thin ribbon, bound edge, 4 inch brim, 51/2 to 6 inch unbashed crown.

The kicker is that I need felt of a weight, thickness (thinness), and quality of my vintage Borsalinos of the Alessandria type.

I know Akubra makes nice sombreros but I don't like their weight and coarseness. Similarly any modern westerns I've seen are too heavy.

Any ideas?

Thanks eh?

Well, I'm not sure of the felt weight, but I have a modified Christy's coming in March. That's when I'll know how the felt is. But you can get the other details you want for sure.

To be completely honest, though, you may have to have something like that custom made in a lightweight felt. Art Fawcett and Graham at Optimo carry some nice summery felts.

Won't a summer weight felt with a 4 inch brim require loads of stiffener to keep it from slapping you in the face? Or a wire hidden in the brim binding? Or whale bone, or whatever?

Thanks guys, good info. I may have to go custom, but was kinda hoping for a store-bought or vintage that won't break the bank.

With a maker and model I would be able to advertise for one, in the way you could say "wtb Stetson OR."

As to getting slapped in the face by a too limber brim, I am not sure about that, would have to see. I know the one Borso I have with a 3 incher is no problem. I think the binding helps.
