Hat is sold.
First.....wow...6 years since I last posted . I could go into a long winded explanation..but I won’t unless asked. I’ve an excellent rating on eBay under the same name if anyone wants to research me....otherwise just ask.
This hat was purchased from another member here...a very well established and well regarded one...but for the life of me I can’t remember who....sorry...maybe he’ll see this hat and chime in.
Like the title says, this Cross Country is a special hat. I’m thinking late 30’s to mid 40’s? The frayed ribbon edge style was popular in this timeframe I believe. The felt is quite incredible. Very light....thin yet pliable and such a nice hand. The color is a beautiful very light silvery grey. There is some mothing....noted in pics....but no holes. And in this light color it doesn’t detract much from the wear. The deepest divots are luckily on the underside of the brim. The sweatband is intact....pliable....incredibly close to like new. Factory perforations in crown for ventilation.
This was truly a “grail hat” for me. I was infatuated with the lightweight “summer” felts and bought more than a few Playboys etc. Never saw another of these. There’s just so few of these surviving. Worn very sparingly in the years I’ve had her. Paid a good bit for her a few years ago. Fits true to size....I’m generally a 7....and I’ve put a bit of paper behind the sweatband for a tighter fit....but I just tried it without....felt ever so slightly large. Little more than 5” on the crown....not a short crown...especially with the 2.25” brim...looks really sharp.
Price....? I’ve tried to research some...eBays a crapshoot.....I’m thinking $250?? Please don’t run me out of Dodge if I’m off on this....just let me down easy!
I have more photos....but some seem too large for the server....I can send some on request.
