Do you think "formal" dress will ever be abolished? If so, when?

It's amazing how much standards of dress have changed over the last 100 years. In 1910- a three piece suit was considered normal day-wear. In 2011, a t-shirt, shorts and sandals are considered acceptable. Formal wear has went from morning wear and a tuxedo to just a normal suit. I've noticed a trend of ties not being worn, public officials and other figures I respect shedding their suits. This gradual, yet steady slide from more conservative types of dress worries me. Do you think suits will be looked at as anachronistic in the foreseeable future?

In short, it would definitely appear so. But over the last two centuries what was normal daywear one day became formalwear a few decades later. The cutaway morning coat was originally an informal alternative to a frock coat made to be more comfortable when riding, yet now it's nearly the only coat one sees with morning dress on even the most formal occasions.

Personally I'm not going to let this bother me. I will continue to wear my suits because I like to do so, and in the unlikely case that I may one day be in government (I'm considering standing in the 2015 General Election) I will try to set an example. However, outside formal occasions with strict dresscodes I will not judge anyone for not dressing up as formally as I choose to.
