different types of fedoras (please help)

I know that this is a classic fedora

what kind is this? It's like, upward "folded" in the front, not just the back. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking for this for months now.

Umm....I wouldn't call that a "classic" fedora, more of a typical trilby (a type of fedora). The second one looks like a pork pie. The last three look like the same hat, and it looks like a variation on the canvas bucket hat.

Indeed, the first hat is not "classic" anything. Fedoras and trilbys are felt hats (although the style can be followed in straw hats as well), whereas these modern creations are imitations of them, made of inferior materials.

And, yes, I could have done without that fist image...

With those hats posted, you can play with the brim as you please. The first one is pretty much a small cotton fedora. The other's are cotton variations on the porkpie or the same as the first hat, just with a tighter curled brim with it up all around. Not that hard to find nowadays.

Alright, so I'll just look around for a "porkpie". I needed the right term to use so people will know what I am talking about.

Goorin Brothers makes hats similar to the one you're referring to. They call them "flip-ups". Of course, any snap-brim fedora can be worn flipped up or down. I have a Trilby-styled Fedora made by Goorin Bros. and love it. Here are all their flip-ups:

Keep in mind the brim is up (like in your photo) when you get a hat. You have to snap the front of the brim down to get the look you see on this website. Hope that helps

If you're bound for NYC any time soon, you can buy these kind of hats for five or ten bucks from street vendors, all over town.

So ubiquitous a fad has it become that I'm now finding them sort of annoying. They're not quality hats, which chaps me, but I have to remember that the vast majority of the people wearing don't give a hoot about that. They're wear them for a few weeks -- a few months, tops -- and toss them.

You can make any stingy-brim hat into a pork pie by flipping up the brim all around and shaping the crown as needed. A pro hat shop can do a nice crown for you and shape the brim too...but the pork pie style is pretty symmetrical and easy.

Search Ebay for "pork pie hat" and I think you'll get the idea.
