-Well, one look at the photo says it all-these "Grizzlies" look ridiculous. Deerskin? The shape is
WAY too boxy and for $600 I'd be rather suspicious of the quality as well. If you're interested in
getting a Grizzly you'll need to pony up more $$$ and get a vintage one or get a well-made
horsehide repro from Aero or Lost Worlds.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Just to play devil's advocate here, could it be that they just need breaking in to look right?
One of the reasons this jacket doesn't look good is the way it is modelled for a start. The guys arms are a bit to skinny and his shoulders not wide enough to give the jacket any definition for a start, also some fullness in the body.
When ever I sell a jacket on the (e)Bay I always pack the sleeves and torso of a dress dummy simply to make it look more realistic if I cannot get a live model that it will fit correctly.
In any form of selling, a house , car, jacket or shoes, just 4 different examples, presentation is everything.
It also says, Made in USA but the description points to a reasonably well(this time) composed Far Eastern google translation.

The black version appears to be a better fit, although nothing about that particular jacket is my cup of tea.

If you look closer, you can tell that the model has been "photoshopped" into the picture.

That having been said, the jackets don't look waist length. This kind of kills the high and tight appeal of a grizzly jacket to begin with.

Looks like poor quality to me with inconsistent build. Notice that the sleeve straps are placed higher on the black one than the brown one. Plus those straps are way too long.

This looks like something out an old Star Trek episode. The original series, the episode with the Yangs and the Congs I believe. How high would you have to be to wear it. How high would you have to be to spend 600 large on it? Ain't that much weed in the world.

Grizzly Jackets

I just bought a copy of the Rin Tanaka book on moto jackets, and he devotes nearly a full chapter to the Grizzly style, noting that it was a popular Fifties style, originating in the Western states, offered by Sears, Penney's as well as many of the big names in moto jackets. Tanaka is quick to say that the style faded fast, and is no longer extant. But perhaps the San Diego maker of this jacket (which the eBay listing says is "Made in USA") plans to revive the look...

Well, there are a bunch of folks making much better reproductions at not too far from the same price point. And then there are the Japanese reproductions which come in rather more expensive.

The thing I dislike about this jacket is that it has no distinctive style. It looks like a normal leather jacket that's had the front and back panels covered with sheepskin … badly … amateurishly. A grizzly should be more than that!

"-noting that it was a popular Fifties style"

-Actually, the Grizzly jacket came out in the 30s and continued into the 40s. I wouldn't associate it with the 50s.

" the style faded fast, and is no longer extant"

-Well, I guess you could say that about most clothing styles from decades past, and that's exactly what I like about vintage garments.
