Hey, I said the free pass was fine. :) It was the fact that he brought snacks into the theater that showed, as Bill Cosby used to say, "N.C." (no class)

My fiancee and I do this quite frequently. I remain unconvinced that this makes us declassee.[huh]

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but people in Denver have been arrested for bringing their own snacks into the theater. My idea of a classy date doesn't involve the police, or being asked to leave. :p

The girl who had been shotgunning beers all evening and stood up in the stands at a football game (next to me) and called me a @%! of a #%@! at the top of her lungs before losing her balance and crashing back into several others probably voided her warranty right there.

But again, there's a difference between a "date" and doing something together as a couple when you're already in a relationship (in this case, engaged, even). At least in my opinion, I stop seeing the need for someone to always have to impress me once we're in something committed.

OK...my idea of a normal life doesn't involve calls to the police or being asked to leave a theater or any other place.

To me, buying food and drink at the theater is just a normal thing to do.

Well, you don't seem too hard to please. Want to go out some time? No guarantees on the above. But I will do my best on it.

Asked to leave, sure. They are a business and have the right. But what law is being violated? That would really surprise me.

Yeah can't say that I've heard of that happening before. Then again I'm quite some distance from Denver.

For the record, sneaking food into a theater is not something I would have done on my own - this always happens at my fiancee's urging.:D (She's an anarchist.)

I really hope the day comes when movies skip the theaters and go straight to DVD. And I'm not talking about low budget movies, but standard Hollywood fare.

what do you all think of Mel's Diner? i mean as far as being too much like McD's or classy enough...? i've had a couple dates there that have turned out fine. casual of course.
i'm guessing the Mel's chain has stretched across the US and not just California...

Back when it was still an "edgy" thing to do, I answered or placed some personals ads.

The first girl was very pretty, Asian, but there was no chemistry.

The second was not my type at all, a San Francisco State University, Women's Studies major; but I figured "We're in North Beach anyway, so why not try to have a good time." We walked around quite a bit and ended up at Speck's next to Tosca, across from Vesuvio and City Lights Books. We sat at a table and drank and talked. The subject of pornography came up (I did not bring it up). She said it degraded women no matter what. I have nothing invested in this issue, but for the sake of challenging opinions that are a little too automatic, I said what about pornography made for women, by women, featuring only women. SHE HAD NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT. Intellectually inexcusable for someone holding such a strong opinion -- especially in a city like San Francisco.

I was making her laugh and we were having a fairly nice time. Then she got up to use the facilities and said, on her way out, "I hate sex."

Did she answer a personals ad because she thought I wanted Platonic relationships with the opposite sex? And needed to ADVERTISE for them?

Ok, did this one smell like Pechouli oil? Wearing flip flops? ;) :p

I haven't been in many relationships but I can tell you I've heard some real zingers.

I won't go into the atrocious details of the completely ruined night, but I will give you two points to consider.

I called a young lady on her cell phone to ask if she'd like to go out Friday night (this is years ago btw). She agreed so I asked if I could pick her up. She gave me directions to the house she was "staying at" and I picked her up. When I got there, there were a few cars in the driveway and being the inquisitive individual that I tend to be, I asked, "So, your roommates having a party?" "No," she said, "My friend Bill was in from out of town and stayed with me last night, that white car is mine, and that other car is my ex boyfriend's." I asked, "So you room with your ex boyfriend?" "Yep."

So after a terrible date, I offered to take her home and she asked, "Could you take me to [different address]?" "Sure," I said, not wanting to be nosy. She killed my curiosity immediately with, "It's this guy's place; he said he'd get me drunk tonight."

Needless to say, I did not take this gal on another date, I didn't even return her calls for a while. She was, in fact, in bed with her exboyfriend, that other friend of hers and the guy that was getting her drunk, along with quite a few others. I got out of that situation fast.

And you might think this story more or less negates the idea of "Dating Etiquette" due to the nature of this young lady, but I must say, it was quite rude to throw out, ""It's this guy's place; he said he'd get me drunk tonight." At least PRETEND like you're not entirely promiscuous. [huh]

Holy Crimony! The revolving door at the front of the house should have told you something right off. ;) :p

ARRESTED? Time to get another mayor of Denver whose first name is not a variant of Adolf.

If you are going to a movie, you know exactly how much that stuff costs in advace. Bring more $$$. ;)
No wonder I haven't been to the theatre in years.
A woman I knew in college always said a movie is a lousy first date because you can't talk and get to know each other sitting in a dark room where you have to be quiet. [huh]

Yes, I agree. Movies are better for dates after the first one. You see the movie, then go out for coffee or dinner or drinks afterwards and you have something to discuss -- the movie you just saw.

First date is better for figuring out whether you want to get to know the person at all, I guess.

Yes and you can save the cost of a movie and dinner if you find out she is saying, "Yes, something might happen between us, but not because I think you are particularly interesting, but because you just happened to come along when I was feeling like having a man around." ;) :p
