Toying with the idea of a pair of these for the Summer (specifically with the impending Chap Olympiad in mind):

As modelled by the honourable Gustav Temple, no less!

A bit narrower looking in the leg than I normally favour, but they appeal for more of an early twenties look....

Anyone purchased trews from this establishment? I have a dinner shirt from them which is marvellous, but trousers are notoriously a much tricker beast...

I'm more of a boating blazer type, myself. It's already too hot this year for me to even think of a sweater without feeling ill...

so so in Derbyshire on the edge of 'The Peak' temperature wise, I had on a 50's Harris tweed jacket last weekend and was borderline too warm...almost!, how can I convince myself that I don't 'need' a pair of those?

Too hot! Maybe you're in for a cold. It's still coat weather for me here near the East coast.

Yes same where I live, in the past two days especially, it's been certainly cold enough still for sweaters and also waterproofs yesterday, it was windy and raining hard all day. Now at least it's sunny, but very chilly.

Narrower in the leg? I had to check that out, eighteen inch bottoms, not too narrow surely Edward. One thing that I did notice though, they are advertised by length to allow for a turn up. Would that be for the customer's preference for the size of the turn up? I can't see them arriving unfinished, as it were.

I do like the moleskin cotton, I have a pair in similar style, although in ivory, made from pure wool. They do get warm when the sun comes out. Shame Darcy don't do a: "The price you see is the price you pay," policy. These £86 trousers come in at £103.25 with VAT, still good value, but if you buy a few purchases that twenty percent soon adds up.

Have to say they are very tempting but as anyone with a white or cream pair of trousers will attest, you are forever having them dry cleaned. Probably spend the purchase price twice over in a year. Even so. I can resist anything, except temptation. By the way Edward, you mention something about blazers, Two Types posted, a while back about a vintage clothing shop in Bournemouth called, Clobber. If you are ever down that way, get yourself along there, they are in Boscombe, close to Pokesdown railway station. I have picked up a couple of really good quality blazers there, excellent value too.

It's less the ankle-width that's the issue for me, more that they look very neat around the seat, compared to what I'd prefer. (Though the sweet spot for me, ankle-wise-wise, is probably just about the 10-10.5" mark).

I'm an Irish transplant to this part of the world. This has been my seventeenth Winter in London, and I've gotten used to the mild weather at that time of year, but Spirng and especially Summer just feel unreasonably hot even still. I spend most of July and August indoors where at all possible.

Not so much at the ankle (I have a couple of early 30s suits which aren't ignificantly wider at the ankle, from memory), but they just look more Victorian neat over the seat. Maybe cricket trousers need to be a tiny bit narrower so they don't trip on them when they're doing the runny/ throwy / catchy thing?

I read the description to mean they arrive with unfinished hems so they can be taken up as required; seems a bit of a norm these days with a lot of trousers once you go off the High Street track.

I agree, it's a pain. I can only assume it's because a significant proportion of their client base is entertainment industry, and they run their accounts differently than the average private punter. [huh] Angels Wardrobe Supplies do the same. It is a pest. I'd much rather have the full cost, including VAT, headlined.

Yes.... I've always previously stuck to drill cotton in white for that reason: machine washable! Moleskin should be reasonably home-cleanable too, I'd have thought....

Thanks, I'll make a note of that...

Surely dry cleaning isn't essential? moleskins are hand or even machine washable as I often machine wash my moleskin chinos with no ill effects and they've been washed too many times to remember over the last 7 or so years!

Well, this year I finslly cracked and ordered a pair of these (I left it too late to order up an ICA uniform). Will report back on how they turn out. If well, I may look at other Darcy options.

Well done you, out of interest I looked up The Lord's Web Site. That's not the almighty, but MCC cricket club at The Lord's ground. They are asking forty nine quid for a simple acrylic knitwear, long sleeved cricket jumper. Perhaps a vintage cricket blazer might go with those Darcy trousers. The MCC blazer is a vivid red and yellow, it's often referred to as: "Egg & Bacon." Very Ronald McDonald. but you can get a red cricket blazer that has an air of period style about it, depends if you think that stripes are 'loud' or not.
