Could anyone help me rescue my favorite tie?

A few months ago, on one of my many cleaning sprees, I hand washed all of my ties. It renewed the vitality of the colors and designs on all of them but one- my very favorite one at that. It's an acetate thin tie that I would date around 1957, and is a multitude of shimmery dots on a black background with a recurring small motif at various points on the tie. I can provide photographs. I washed it like the other one, by hand with cold water, and it seemed to come out fine. I dabbed it and let it air dry, the colors looked great. It wasn't until it dried that it appeared to shrink dramatically, with all sorts of wrinkles on it. I would really like to be able to wear this tie again someday, albeit if it requires taking it apart, ironing the fabric, and putting it back together. Before I do something that dramatic, is there any solution to my problem? Thanks

If you want the tie to look like new again, this is exactly what you should do. It's nothing. Taking apart, ironing, sewing the tie again, it's quite simple and self-explanatory since you won't have to cut it anew.

Agreed - I've done it a few times with ties that have twisted. There's not really any way of ironing out that sort of thing when the tie is together - and in fact could ruin it more (and irreversibly) if Acetate is anything like Terylene.
