Here are some pictures of the period costumes from the 1970 Italian film "The Conformist" Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. The costumes are by Gitt Magrini (L'eclisse,The Wild Child,1900). The film is set in 1930s Fascist Italy and (temporarily) free France. They capture the style of the era well and I couldn't find any anachronistic gaffs; flaired or too tight trousers, etc. I did spot a few male extras with too long hair and even sideburns but these transgressions are quickly forgotten among the wealth of spot-on details in this great film.
Casual sweaters worn by Italian anti-fascist intelligencia types
An Italian professor in a scene that influenced the American film "Millers Crossing"
The wonderful Stefania Sandrelli
A very sexy scene with two lovely actresses: Dominique Sanda and Stefania Sandrelli. There were some excellent costumes in this crowd scene. A few very nice newsboy style caps (and some killer mostaccioed gentlemen! )
Cheers! Jon
