Hello,
We had a box real close to yours at a volunteer Fire Department I belonged to. The County gave it to us in the early 1980's. It was full of bandages (cloth), wooden splints and a bunch of other medical type stuff like scissors and clamps plus a radiation detector (AKA: Geiger Counter) I think.

CD also stored 50 gallon drums with foodstuffs in designated locations, ie., any place with a Civil Defense sign since it was an official place to gather in an emergency.
ABout a year ago I went to Grand Canyon Caverns and saw their stock of supplies the CD hauled in during the 50s. It's still there in the cave!
