Cheap Jack's Laughable Prices: Now Available on Ebay!

Cheap Jack's Vintage Clothing in New York is one of my favorite destinations to gawk at the seriously inflated prices of the items in their street level showroom and scour their basement in search of something cool and affordable. I always figured that brick and mortar business could get away with charging whatever they want since customers really can't gauge prices unless they are already vintage afficionados and familiar with current market prices for items.

Asking for above market prices is a little more difficult on ebay, given that shoppers have whole categories of similar items to browse and compare price-wise.

That is why I find it surprising that Cheap Jack's has moved to ebay auctions with opening bid levels set to astronomical heights. This argyle ricky jacket?

Cheap Jack has done MANNNNNY evil things over the years. I rememeber 20 years ago he had literally hundreds of great vintage suits that he cut the sleeve and trouser cuffs off of, and attached web cuffs like you'd find on a bomber jacket. Totally nuts and totally hideous.
CJ is TOTALLY about greed.

I started shopping there about 2 years ago. Almost anything I ever bought was the few cheap, true vintage things they had. In truth, I've found some very nice vintage sport coats from them, for very very low prices, but after digging through the racks for hours. There also seems to be a formula that if it's a double breasted jacket or suit, from the 1890's-1970's, it's priced well above $130. I saw a double breasted '40s orphaned suit jacket, riddled with huge moth holes with a price tag of about $68, and it was pretty much unwearable. I've heard the prices are high because of rent, and because of clientele. Right now they're having a 50% off everything, though even with that discount the prices are still way out of my price range, especially when a '30s/'40s suit has an origional price tag of $1,200.
