Ok, I was approached with a great opportunity to work with a well-established company that is trying to make a dent in the LA area. They would like to bring me in, use me as a specialist of some sort, and I get to work at home.
Problem is, I have been combing the web for salary comparisons and I can't find any! I work in a small, specialized field; I do CAD Specification. In short, I layout office furniture (both "Cubicles" and desks) on a building drawing, then pull everything together, plug in the paints, fabrics, upgrades, then finally compile a parts list and pricing.
Does anyone know of a website that would break down salary/per hour wages for this field? All of the CAD work I found is drafting and/or graphic design. Help!

Is there a possibility that this field or type of work could be known by another name that isn't primarily focused on the CAD aspect of the work?

Maybe it would be easier to approach this from another angle. Figure out how much higher the cost of living is in LA vs. where you live now. Multiply your current wages by that factor.

Then add a cushion above that number, you won't get it if you don't ask.

This is a super limited experience, but when our office got a redesign, the designer had us pay $75-$100 an hour for the CAD person. Now, I'm sure that person didn't make all of that money, but it sure sounds good :) I'm in LA.
