Buried Spitfires in Burma to be excavated.

On first hearing this I was reminded of those apocryphal tales I heard in my teen years, those stories of warehouses full of war surplus Jeeps and Harley-Davidsons that could be had for lunch money. But this appears to be for real. Wow.

I wonder what is left after all these years. Was a lot of wood and fabric used in their construction?

I commented to quick. I looked up construction and early versions had fabric coverings on control surfaces but they proved inadequate for high speed use so they went to a thin alloy skin. Frame and most skins were duraaluminum.

.if they were crated up and the crates buried i think they stand a greater chance of survival. even so with 60 of them the odd are in his favor that he has at least a dozen aircraft worth of serviceable parts. cant wait to see how this turns out.
