Brooks Brothers suit

I recently picked up this suit at a local Goodwill.

I think it's awesome, very late-1930s/early-1940s in style. 2-button SB jacket with a single vent (would prefer ventless but oh well). Very vintage-style short vest with 4 working pockets. Trousers are straight legged, flat front and decently high-waisted. I'll need to add suspender buttons to them.

The fabric is heavy weight tweed in a herringbone weave. Fantastic.

Unfortunately the suit has several holes in both the jacket and trousers. The one shown below is the largest. I'll try to fix them up with some 'stitch witchery' (the trousers have plenty of extra fabric at the hem for me to use).

Trousers are almost long enough for me, I'll have to take down the hem 3/4" to 1". There is 2" extra for me to work with.

Good lapels and fairly natural shoulders.

The vest.

Vintage style clasp.

Overall it needs a good pressing, some stitch witchery and a few suspender buttons added but I'm very happy with this $6 find.

Can anyone help me date it? It's fairly recent, within the last 20 years I'm guessing.

I've nearly finished stitching up the holes (most of them in the jacket, one in the trousers and a tiny one in the vest). Here are some of the results.

Would anyone have any problems with wearing such a suit that has been repaired with stitch witchery? The repairs are noticable if you look closely but don't jump out at you.

Perhaps with all the flooding in Iowa you might want to hold off on letting the hem down for a little while!

The repairs look pretty good from the pictures. I think they look like normal tweed fabric anomolies(sp?).

Very true, perhaps I should turn them into plus fours!

Some do look like anomalies, others still need some more work. Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice suit. But from the way the lining is made, I would guess it's from the 80's. Everybody should have a nice brown tweed suit like that.
