British Army Olive Green Wooly Pully's (Jerseys).

I'm getting rid of two of my British Army wooly pullys. Both are Chest 40", olive green, reinforcement patches to shoulders and elbows (NATO issue).

1. Of historical interest - was in Newtownhamilton RUC Station, Northern Ireland when it was mortared/bombed in the 80's by Irish terrorists. British Army issue, but used by Royal Ulster Constabulary on Border Duties, without epaulettes and a nice heavy wool.

2. More recent British Army issue (with epaulettes), from 1990's, excellent conditon.

(but, say £20 each plus postage from UK).

A size small for me, alas. Are these the standard "army jumpers" I would remember from the Eighties? I had a few kids' versions of those (in navy and brown mine, if memory serves - my folks were a little too security conscious back in those days to let me out in anything too military-green looking, or camo). I have a vague recollection the RUC used to have its own version as well, in that sharp black-green colour their uniforms were?

Yes the RUC did have their own version of the traditional woolly pully, it was different shade of green called "Bottle Green" I have one of those in a Vee neck, they did used to be the same colour too in a round/crew ceck, but I have not seen one for ages. I have a number of these pullovers in other colours, IMO they look and feel good, keep you warm and last for ages. In the "WW2" section there are also a couple of threads about the White / Navy Submariner-RAF Roll necks.

Like you I used to have a v-neck version of the bottle green. I have a crew (round) neck version now, supplied by Outddor Knitwear needless to say!

These are both olive green (British Army). The one without the epaulettes and double knit para cuffs from the early 80's and used by RUC was army issue, just issued to Police Officers working with on joint military operations on the border. This particular one was in RUC Newtownhamiliton, Bessbrook and Crossmaglen.
