WILLIAMSPORT - An electrician rewiring a kitchen in a Williamsport house found a surprise when he cut a hole in the back of a closet: a secret compartment containing 26 bottles and six stoneware jugs of Prohibition-era sherry.

From the description it sounds more like home made wine or liqueur than sherry. Waiting for Lizzie Maine's opinion.

It seems there is a discovery like this (prohibition liquor stash found in old house) every few months.
