I have exhausted my search sites and interlibrary loan sources, I think, because I am unable to clearly identify what I seek within each one's search parameters.

I seek a book with graphics on the muzzleloading percussion cap lock sporting rifles made by Alexander Henry, the Scottish gunmaker. It would be nice were it comparable with W. Keith Neal and Donald Black's The Mantons: Gunmakers.

You might try contacting John Dickson, Gun Makers, at 21 Frederick Street, Edinburgh, as they took over Alex. Henry several years (decades??) back.

Perhaps my favourite rifle ever was my .450/3 1/4 single shot Alex. Henry. I sold it nearly 40 years ago thru Kerr's Sporting Goods in Beverly Hills, Ca. and would cheerfully buy it back today... at almost any price.

Naphtali,

I share your interest in British percussion and also early cartridge rifles (a British 450 or 500BPE hammer double rifle is a dream rifle for me...)
A couple of ideas:
Have you looked at the book by Dallas The British Sporting Gun and Rifle? http://www.amazon.com/British-Sport...79&sr=8-1&keywords=british+sporting+rifle+gun
Its got some of the nicest pictures of British rifles from about 1830 to 1900. I do not have a copy handy so I do not know if they have Alexander Henry percussion rifles but there are many photos of guns by that maker.

Not a book but I would look through the back issues of the Double Gun Journal. There have been many stories over the years about both Alexander Henry and also British rifles from the 19th Century. In particular Sherman Bell has run a nice series the past 3-4 years called "Real Muzzleloaders" where he show cases many British percussion rifles. I am sure there was an Alexander Henry in one of the articles (I am away from my library at the moment). I'll check tonight. http://www.doublegunshop.com/doublegunjournal_idx.htm

Also if you've not looked try some of the high end double gun sellers: Roosevelt and Drake, Monty Whitley, etc. They alway have some British percussion rifles in. Who know maybe they have an Alexander Henry at the moment?

I hope this helps!

Edit: I did a quick look and sorry no luck with percussion A. Henry rifles in my issues of the DGJ (but I only have the journal from about 2004 or so on).

Are you still looking? I got out my copy of the Dallas book I mentioned and there is one photo of a late A. Henry percussion double rifle from the 1860s. If you want it I can scan it and also post the rifles details.

After my digging through my materials its the only photo I've found of a percussion A. Henry. I've more photos of Henry cartridge double rifles but they are from 1880s or so.

Let me know.

Hi - I realise this thread was started a long time ago, but I am Alexander Henry's great great grandson. I have recently collaborated with Donald Dallas with his new book Alexander Henry Rifle Maker, limited edition 750 copies which are selling well.

Here is a short video by introduction :

The book can be purchased here : http://donalddallas.com/

Mr. Brown:

Orgasmic!

My gunmaker, Gene Gordner of Kalispell, Montana, recently completed for me a matched pair of Alexander Henry-style .72-caliber single shot percussion caplock muzzleloading rifles. One of the locks needs adjusting (three locks, one of which is back-up), so I'll be driving up there sometime in the next couple of weeks.

My rifles were made, replacing a pair of Pedersoli Kodiak Safari double rifles, because I continue to have a delusion that I will have an opportunity to hunt cape buffalo. This is the only animal I have any interest in trophy hunting in addition to its meat rather than being solely the meat hunter I am. While the Kodiak Safaris are well made and incredibly accurate, loading them to create an even chance at surviving an intimate meeting with a mature cape buffalo might have rendered them hand grenades. My Alexander Henry rifles have no known black powder limitation with round ball or with Steve Brooks' 980-grain conical bullet. The limitation is how heavy a load can I shoot accurately for two shots.

Regarding my so-called delusion, do you think a GoFundMe web page would create the money?

Chasseur: I own two copies of Mr. Dallas' book. One is in my library stacks. The other is part of a short stack on my kitchen table for use when I eat alone.

Hi - there's a nice blog about the book on Westley Richards' site : https://www.theexplora.com/ ... scroll down to November 30th 2017. There are over 200 full colour photographs and illustrations in Alexander Henry Rifle Maker, some of which are reproduced in the WR blog.

I hope you liked the wee promo video.
