Rick Blaine ,this was the type of hat you could get back in the old days. This is not a super duper hat but I love it. It is in great condition and looks fantastic with a grey flannel suit.

The photos don't do it justice at all.

For me the bow and the liner make this hat. I love the fraying at the bows back.

Very nice & rustic Douglas.:eusa_clap I actually invision this hat paired with a wool mackinaw & a pipe with a straight stem. Seated on a bench or rocker on the front porch of a hunting cabin. Go figure.

Cheers!

Ha... I got a Knox with a frayed ribbon, and immediately "fixed" it -- thought it was a flaw. Now I'm wondering if I made an aesthetic error...

Yeah, I'll always feel guilty about complaining to an
eBay seller about a NOS Cavanagh- a spectacular
hat with a nice wide brim and tall crown and that
dense Cavanagh felt- because the bow was frayed.
Then I noticed my other Cav fedora had the same thing.
Then I got another Cav fedora with the same... oops.

I have a vintage mallory with a bow like that! I brought it to JJ Hat Center in NY and they clipped the fraying off the smaller bow and tucked in the fraying on the big bow. This is very enlightening...I'm going to go untuck the fraying on it now! haha

I don't know if the fraying is original but it seems too consistent not to be. for me it adds a bit of flare to a hat that for me is more formal. I have other hats with fraying that I know is not supposed to be there and those are not as clean and deliberate as the Bond. I put the fraying on some of my custom hats, it becomes a little detail that off sets the bow.

Maybe we should call it "feathered," or something that distinguishes it from the fraying caused by wear and tear. I have a nearly good-as-new vintage lid with a fancy sort of feathering at the ribbon's trailing edge, and I once parted with a hat whose ribbon was undoubtedly frayed through damage.
