Vintage ribbon is vintage ribbon, its not boater specific. What is it you're looking for?

Any good fabric store should have a selection of grosgrain ribbon. Unfortunately, there's usually a limited selection of (solid) colours in a width suitable for boater hatbands.

I "faked" my school colours ribbon on mine by sewing a narrow ribbon down the middle of a wider ribbon. It looks fine and you can only see that it's a two piece ribbon if you come up very close.

Maybe we should band together and get some ribbon woven?

sorry guys i guess i should have been more specific ;)

the ribbon on mine right now is the classic red/blue. ill be taking it off soon to shellac the straw, but after that i wanted to pick up some other color schemes for it. mix and match. age of it dosent matter. it could have been made yesterday, as long as its the exact measurements as the one that came on it.

Do a search on eBay with the words "striped grosgrain". You may not find the colors/width you want right away, but save the search and keep checking the new listings. Maybe, maybe not - but it's worth a try.

That suggestion of stitching down ribbons is a good one. It'd be extra slick if the outside color ribbon were done with folded-in edges, edgestitched down onto the inside color.

What I really want is navy blue and Cambridge grey, my boarding school colors. I'm going to my 25th reunion next year and it would impress the gang. (I even have the boater I owned then - no, it wasn't part of our uniform, we didn't have one.)

There's a number of beautiful grosgrains available today with stripe combinations for reasonable prices if you don't mind modern weaves. However, for the folded down edges or ribbonwork, you will habve to get someone to sew it for you.

Fletch,
Not sure I really get what you're trying to describe here; could you elaborate?
