I believe it's for nails, as you can only fit a couple of fingers in the pocket. You can access the pocket from the top and from the sides. I'm guessing it's to keep something small from falling out as you're moving and bending.

Thanks so much. It's that pocket - and rare you find a ragland. I wish it fit me, but the sleeves are too short.
