I have the old comp weight from Vanson. It was stiffer than what you have. It took me about six months to a year to break it in. Now it is buttery soft and a pleasure to wear.

Just keep working with your jacket, using water to hasten the process. Break in will come soon enough.

That's a much more achievable timeline, thanks for the insight :)

I've seen comments saying 15+ years and comp leather still isn't broken in, I think this coat is over 25 years old and I can barely see a wrinkle. I can suffer the restriction and the discomfort but it has to be a little faster than that haha

Lies or folks being lazy or unimaginative about how they can break-in the jacket much faster, never been more than a couple weeks tops for me and usually within a week since I really dislike wearing super stiff leather.

I have a vanson in comp weight, and it’s the old comp weight circa mid-00’s, took me about a week to get it from suit of armor stiffness to wearable and within a couple months it was already molded to my body.

@floater

Can you explain what you do with the rope? Tie up the jacket, let sit, redo?

Thanks

I use several different methods depending on how stiff and thick the leather is, some are as simple as just laying it out in the sun and letting the leather warm up then wearing it immediately after till it cools down.

Others involve leaving it out in the rain for a bit then wearing it till it dries up, or giving it a light mink oil rub while out in the sun and letting it soak into the leather and wearing it afterwards for a bit before hanging it up inside for a couple days till it’s completely dry.

Some of my extreme methods for extra stiff leather involves rolling the jacket up and sitting on it for a couple minutes over a couch, sofa or bed (not over a hard surface) then unrolling it and rolling it up again in a different direction and sitting on it again for another couple minutes, I usually do that a few times a day for a couple days.

And the other one is bunching it up, carefully to not damage hw or have hw scratch the leather, after a light mink oil rub out in the sun and tie it up overnight using a cotton terry bathrobe belt.

Sometimes I do a combination of 2 or more of those methods, but the added benefit of the last two mentioned is that it also gets the grains to pop out immediately vs waiting for them to start showing up with natural wear, obviously more so when ******* than just sitting on it.

Guidi oiled reverse hh 3/4 length coat, it’s the smoothest hh I’ve handled, drapes like lamb or deer, and it’s also the best fitting coat I’ve ever tried.

Mobility isn’t an issue at all mainly because it’s so soft and flexible but also because it has a slit in the center back that goes up to just below the waist so it’s never an issue when sitting down, bending, crouching or sprinting.
