Agreed! It's a gorgeous car though! My grandfather's neighbor owns one. I used to stand on his fence as a little girl and watch him work on it on weekends. Shame I was never offered a ride. I think he thought I wouldn't appreciate it.... :(

A street rodders dream...

An OLD hot rod, should be "built" like an old hot rod.
There is something to be said for a bunch of "kids" in the late 30s able to make a model A go 104mph. Anyone can take an old body, drop it on a new chasis, with a new modern engine and say wow, look how fast my model A goes. What are you accomplishing other than trying for a gold medal in the olympics of B.S. lazyness. Its now the commonplace to see people out there with more money than brains, building so-called hot rods, or having OTHERS build cars for them and telling the crowds, "yeah I built this car" when the only drop of anything that was shed by them was a few mass wads of cash into the hands of others.

I see guys all the time take new engines put old valve covers on them because "no one will know it's not the real deal". Sorry, I'm not into the "no one will know the difference" mindset. I say if you want to run a modern engine in a street rod, more power to ya, but if you want it to look old and to pass for old, there is a lot of old out there to be had by the person who's willing to look for it. Sorry, I'm just not into the lets hide something new inside something old...

....that's just being a pathetic schmuck without a clue!

Um, this sucker was designed from the get go to appear vintage. Hell, they even machined billet wheels to look like wood-spoked wheels. Put in a misfire switch so you could motor around backfiring and hitting on 3 cylinders, just like a model A would do. This is no street rod/hot rod. This is something completely different.

That's just moronic!

First off, a properly running Model A never fired on 3,...it had 4 cylinders, thus it fired on all four...

Why "appear" vintage,....why not just do it right? It seems more like an example of what a fruitcake with a rediculous amount of money can do when you have nothing better to do with your money in the first place,...completely moronic!

GEE WHIZ,DUDE!!! You must be a H.A.M.B.er (jalopyjournal.com) in your other life. I suppose my resetable ciruit breakers and grounded wiring system retrofitted in my 80 year old house is wrong because it ain't "traditional", huh. I guess only screw-in fuses and clothe-covered wiring will have to do. Lay off, man. Regardless of who turned the wrench or how much money was spent on that car, it's very nicely done with much creativity and ingenuity. We're not talking about a small-block Chevy with fake Olds Rocket valve covers......furthermore and while I'm on MY soapbox, if more of those "brainless" wealthy people would spent more of their money on old cars, the passionate old car builders would have even more work to do. ;) Yours affectionately.

The whole point of this car was not to do a modernized restoration, but to build the ultimate 'sleeper'. If you don't understand the amusement value of a sleeper, you won't understand the motivation behind building this fabulously excessive machine.

This looks like late 50s or early 60s mechanical fuel injection mounted to a Hemi dragster engine. The layman and even a lot of novices might not notice they now are electronic fuel injection units. All the wiring and injectors are hidden nicely beneath the finned valley cover. Now the fuel air ratio can be very efficiently controlled from a computer. Beautiful. Now it's completely practical to drive on the highway, not just the dragstrip. I think this kind of practice, done well, is wonderful. That old mechanical fuel injection no longer sits on a shelf collecting dust, and man what look! (The car is called Respect Traditon and was built by Hollywood Hotrods)

Well, way to take the point I made waaay off topic...the wiring in your house?...really reachin here aren't we?

Its exactly in the same vein as the olds covers on the chevy heads,....same problem,....just a tacky waste of cash. just to do something different for the sake of doing something differnet....that doesn't make people respect you, nor does it keep "the passionate old car builders" working. No, things like this keep jerks like Boyd Cottington in business.

Oh and yes, I'm very familiar with the idea of a "sleeper" car,....obviously you underestimate the knowledge of a woman?

Obviously, there's quite a lot of goofy modernistic people thinking this is the best thing since Ice Cream,....but then again, its the norm these days from the Boyd Cottington disco generation who's only knowledge of hot rodding and/or restoration comes from TLC and the discovery channel with a dash of your average newstand dribble by way of car magazines.

Oh well,...again,..just my opinion....

I agree,..."excessive" obnoxiously so I might add.

Before I realised that cars were a waste of time I used to 'run-what-you-brung' my European '37 Ford with a tweaked Koln V6 against a chipped Cosworth Escort - same engine as this Model A, though probably in a slightly lower state of tune. Our cars were well matched - sometimes he'd take the light, sometimes I would.

He claimed 250BHP+ for his motor. I claimed less than 200 for mine (real 150 HP at the wheels on an accurate chassis dyno). OK, my '37 is lighter than the Escort (which may account for the extra 50+BHP but equal performance) and even lighter than the 'A', so really, is that 'A' that quick?

I bet my '37 cost a fifth of what that 'A' took to produce using good old-fashioned backyard engineering. It looks just as close to stock as the 'A'. Oh, yes, one drawback - apart from the door handles it's all European parts, which I guess rules it out as 'non traditional'?
