Decades of Style just put out new 20's patterns that are DROOLWORTHY! Gosh, now I want to do 20's, and some of you know I generally am not a big fan- but I'm seeing VISIONS of silk georgette and velvet charlestoning in my brain!

Lauren do you think that one would be easy to make for a total beginner? Or should I better wait with buying that one?

Hmm... I can't tell. The waist ties might be a little tricky, but it looks pretty easy to me as a piece in the back. I wish they had a pattern piece layout! Maybe try emailing the company and asking- from my experiece they're very helpful through emails! Sorry I can't be more help [huh]

oh my gosh, Lauren..those are sooo me!

I have my machine packed as i am moving in about 3 weeks, this is not good.I will be trying to set up my machine on top of the boxes

The 20's you do tend to think of the plain up down shift dress which is not going to show off your figure.. boring in a way but as Lauren has show there are some really great if a little over the top styles been worn then for me it is this contrast which make the 20's a interesting period.
It would be great to see any of those been worn today.

Yes Paul, some of the styles were a bit over the top and bizzarre, but that is what i love about them.I prefer the drapey, soft fabrics though, more so than the stiff, boxy outfits.Unfortunately, i don't have the willowy figure for it, but alas, that is still where my heart lies

Augh! Curse my giant hips! I've got the shoulders for that hostess gown, but my hips would just throw the whole thing out of proportion.

I think I can rock the 20s dress, though, as long as I do the sleeveless version. (I think with my hair and shoulders I'd hit frump really quickly in the other one, which is a shame for I *love* those sleeves.)

Lauren, those are so cute. I have been dithering over whether to make a cloud cape for a while.

I just discovered I have a dress almost like the hostess gown in the new pattern book from 1940 that I got yesterday What a pleasant surprise!!!! I´ll definately give it a try now that I have it anyway

Tourbillion, I also saw those on Vintage Pattern Lending Library- they look wonderful! In fact, they just put up more pictures, if I'm not mistaken. Beautiful styles, even if a pain to trace off lol

And yet again, don't I just wish I could sew! Lovely patterns all 'round.

Even those simple shift/chemise/tube dresses of the first half of the 20s had wonderful variations depending on fabric, accessories and little modifications. I have examples from both early and late, and love the elements to both.

Sari, that is one beautiful gown.Does anyone know of any other good sources for 20s-30s dresses? Right now, I am mainly looking for daytime wear.
