These super yachts are usually indescribably vulgar, but this one is rather nice:

From here, more pictures and links etc. Just the right side of the opulent/vulgar line, very Art Deco in that as well.

The exterior is not to my taste, but if there was any way I could get hold of a house that would hold the innards, that would be superb!

So that's his boat? I read an interesting article before he started the Rum Diary which focused on the boat but never had any photos. Very nice, of course I like the first baot as well.

The exterior is, sadly, just a standard modern one, and quite dull. The interior is the star, quite a relief to know it is still possible to commission such a thing. The tyranny of modernism isn't quite absolute.

Here's my personal ultimate yacht, Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock V. It was his last unsuccessful attempt to win the America's Cup back in the 30's. It's a J boat class racing yacht, considerably bigger than the 12 meter yachts that were used in the race for so many years. After it retired from racing it was refitted for more comfortable sailing, with fancy staterooms and actual railings along the sides. I was lucky enough to spend a half hour or so on it some years back when it participated in the Tall Ships event for the Statue of Liberty Centannial in New York. Mmmm what a boat.

According to the description it has be re-refitted for racing agin. Whatever. It's still one of the most fabulous sailboats to ever float.
