Ok, I'm stumped. [huh] Anyone ever seen anything like it?

From his helmet, I'm thinking the statue's supposed to be a Roman.

The box is marked "Westinghouse", but there's no guarantee that's it's original container.

You'd need to find alumni whose life revolved around Romans...sorry.

Its a fairly usual design of a late 19th Century mantel clock. Apart from the case (which looks French) I would say the movement looks German. I'v eseen lots of these, and fixed 'em up after looking worse than yours, from what I can see. Assembling German and Austrian movements into cases occurred all across Europe. The bridges (the back, which is visible, at least) seem to be not very substantial (often the sign of a good movement) The springs would indicate 'eight day' power and the short, plain pendulum wouldn't make it the best timekeeper in the world. I can't see the 'gong', which would have been mounted on the bottom of the case. Is there anything like a metal coil lying around anywhere?

The feather and springs look intact - that' s the main thing. Get to it, make it go!

Obviously, I am a Phillistine (neo-classical. That'll teach me to ever post before absorbing my fourth cup of coffee..).

Thanks for the enlightenment, Alan. Now check your PMs.
