Are you a fickle lover like me?

I mean seriously, I've lost sleep and cried over the objects of my affection! The ones that got away, or were out of my league and budget. Then, suddenly, the magic is gone. Just like that. I want OUT! So I kick them to the curb on ebay.

Have you ever collected something vintage passionately, almost obsessively, and then one day could care less because you found a new challenge?

Certainly. Old radios is an example with me. But I was compelled to forget new pieces because my apartment became small. And I really prefer those big radios!!

I wouldn't say I "couldn't care less", but my vintage magazine obsession has cooled off over the past few years. And Patterns. I think I have about every bodice/skirt/sleeve/style/bow/belt you can have -- nothing looks new and different anymore when you acquire them all!

Well...I am famous for my fickle'y behaviour. Vintage and antique tho, never stopped.

I've never given up completely, but I've lost a lot of my passion for my Rotary phone collection, I'm guessing it's because once I moved out of my parents house after High School, there was no longer a budget for it.

I don't really get over my obsessions. I have quite a few Victorian books and spent ages tracking them done and reading them. I have kind of moved on to the 1950's now but I still adore my Victorian books. Just thinking about my Girl's Own Annuals makes me smile!

I think I am too dull to be fickle!

I tend to accumulate items for a specific purpose -- my books and magazines are for research use, for articles and things that I get paid to write, and that being so, I can always find some excuse to add a new one. But I don't "collect" things like radios, appliances, records, or even clothes really -- I acquire them to use, not to "collect," and I only have as many around as I need at any particular time. So I don't have much chance to really get "tired" of them. About the only real collection I have in a no-other-reason-besides-I-like-it sense is my vintage groceries, and even those I have with half a mind toward renting them out as props.

(When I first saw this post, my feeble eyes read it as "pickle lover," and I was about to extol the virtues of my favorite brand of sour dills...)

I've toned out on my mental voice saying, "Get them all now!" to a more practical, "Oh, that's different, will it add to my collection. I'll think about it." I guess if its worth it for the sake of my overall collection, then yea, but for collection's sake, then meh.

I also like collecting things that you can never have all of. That way I don't feel as bad if I can't get one or the other from time to time.

But come on, we've all had those times when you see something and you just flat out say, "This is mine. No discussion." I've had those, but very rarely lately.

No. I hang onto and keep things. I am highly sentimental, and rarely part with things of value. I also keep useless things that I know are of no value. I keep things that other people probably think are garbage (I don't actually keep REAL garbage- like stuff that stinks) but I keep plastic lids to use for crafts, yogurt containers to use for painting, glass jars for starting cuttings and dyeing fleece, and tin cans of the right shape and size for drying small wreaths. I have several (medium sized) boxes of this stuff on hand.

I've gotten better, however, and gotten rid of a lot of the stuff that I actually don't use that can be recycled. But I try to reuse everything before I recycle it. I never give away clothes that are worn out (and I wear them until they have holes), they become rags or rugs or something else.

The only way I can figure out why I have ended up this way is because I grew up on a farm, and we reused everything. (Honestly, I can tell you 10 plausible uses for a yogurt container that make it valuable to me).

I don't like clutter, I don't want to end up on "Hoarders" and I need the funds to fuel my new habits so I find selling is best. There's someone out there who will love the items more than me and I'd rather have them go to a home where they'lll be cherished if I've become indifferent or disinterested.

On the flip side, I've sold things in the past that I thought were junk. Well, they were junky, but now it's my kind of trash and I wish I never got rid of it! (Like early 70's stuff.)

Life isn't easy for a fickle gal like me, I guess.

I have an antique/vintage chair and light fixture problem... I see them and I buy them (if I can afford it) or pick them up off the side of the road. I have 20 beautiful wood chairs in my basement that I don't have room for (some needing repair), but they came in handy for a friend's party once. On the other hand all the light fixtures found a place in our home, except for about 5 or 6, because they need to be rewired. My husband winces a bit when we're out thrifting and he sees my eyes glaze over, because he knows what is coming home with us without even looking lol So, I would say no, I'm not fickle, because this has been going on for as long as I can remember.

My wife and I bought and sold antique postcards as a hobby. Used to go to postcard shows and events on the East coast. Met some interesting people. Had some great vintage photo (picture) postcards of things and places. We then moved from Baltimore to Boise where the hobby didn't have the attention or following that the East coast had. We lost interest and quit. Now have a card collection of 1,000 or so cards organized and inventoried in a chest of drawers crying to get out but nowhere to go. Kinda sad when the passion is gone.

Like Lizzie, I don't really "collect". Everything is to wear (clothes), use (crockery) or for research (books, magazines, catalogues, etc.).

I can't say that any of my passions has cooled over the years. I do find a lot of stuff that I pick up specifically for the purposes of selling (stuff that's of a good era, cheap, and too big for me, generally). But I can't think of anything i've bought because i liked/wanted it, then got sick of. There was an incident of selling all my 40s ties, but that was to make money when in a rather tight spot.
