Does anyone here do graphic design work for logos and business cards? I am starting a pressure washing business and in need of a logo and business card designed along with another logo that is hot rod/retro related.
I figured I'd post this here first in case someone here needs the work or such. I am hoping it's OK to post this kind of like a wanted ad.
Thanks in advance!

I don't do anything professionally, but I love using Photoshop. If you want, I'll give it a shot. It'd be free because it's just a hobby, but I did make my bosses at Staples happy when I did a sign for a new corporate idea they were touting - made big waves and probably kept me hired another 6 months more than I deserved. Lemme know. I'll do whatever you want. Of course, take options from everyone else too - it's better to pick and choose than to settle.

Sure, that would be great. The first logo is for my pressure washing company. I have NO CLUE what I am going to do for the logo. I have been thinking and thinking of a logo and business card idea and just can't since it's just not my type of style. The same thing will go for the color scheme. I usually like to keep the colors basic and stick to only 3 of them. I want the logo to match the website, cards and work shirts along with the work vehicle. Basically I just want local people to see it and know me by my logo. This logo should be fun for you to do. I am going to leave it up to the designer to do what they think looks professional and clean if they do not mind. Do you have an email address I can email you at to send you the name and info? I do not want to post the name and info out for the public to see quite yet until all the legal stuff is completed and I do not have to worry about people taking any ideas (not saying anyone here will). Thanks a lot!
Edit: Something I forgot to mention... I am thinking about staying away from the usual logo with a pressure washing wand and light blue color scheme. Seems that every pressure washing company out there has this and it gets old IMO.

EDIT: My email account is deleted because it was compromised along with lots of other yahoo accounts apparently. The silver lining is that it caused me to go around the net and change my age old passwords.

Not too blame one of you but often a "photoshop hobby" can't be a compensation for a skilled designer....even if it is for free.

Designers get their apprenticeship not just for fun. The don't work for free but you get what you paid for. [huh] Who else works for free? You rarely get a burger or a suit for free just because some people like to cook or sew.
It's not very fair to ruin their prices.

I really don't want insult anybody just want to clarify these things. Maybe Pompidou is very talented :)
Good luck with your company Shawn

I had to give up my freelance design business a few years back due to internet pricing. There are companies outsourcing logo design to India for $15 or so now. I can hardly afford to boot up my computer for that price. You'd think after 21 years of graphic design, I'd be able to work for myself rather than someone else. :(

I am sorry to hear that. People are trying to save money. Thats understandable. But bad design will not help a business to get attention and stand out against competitors. Some people just don't see the difference[huh]

I am still a student. Looks like a nice future for us design folks.

Maybe the results will be lousy, maybe not. It'll just be another option on the table. He'll get results from everyone else he contacts, including me. I'm just another set of ideas. I get to have fun and practice, he might get what he likes for free. I don't see any way to lose.

Oh well. I don't deny that you could make a good logo. Do it! Really! I don't want this job now.

I was speaking in general. A "pitch" for a logo work isn't very practical here. Sometimes big clients do it for bigger jobs.

Don't you understand the concept of "working for free" itself is already damaging?
Ask a plumber if he will fix the first broken toilet for free an get paid if he will do good work.

I see what you're saying. Getting stuff for free has been sort of the going thing for my café startup. For example, I'm getting pro bono consulting because of the area I'm opening in (well, funded by the state). I'm getting my place built up for free with friend labor, and am paying back with pizza and beer to settle my own conscience and make it fun. I've gotten 25 tables for my cafe for free, from a friend who has connections to a resource that gets rid of them anyway. Even my own graphic design work could've been all but free - he said, "don't worry about paying me," and I said, "nah, we went to school together and are both new startups, let's make this mutually beneficial." Could've had it for pennies. Getting live entertainment for free. Free's just my favorite word. In return, I'm throwing a celebratory pig roast when we open, as well as a limited invite open house, and I already threw a couple of all you can eat/drink bbqs - I give free, and I get free. Just how I manage. I'm generous when I can be, so that I don't feel bad if I need a hand later.

I am going to give Pompidou a try anyways plus still going to pay an actual graphics designer their going rate to have a logo done. I need 2 to 3 logos done and one of them I am NOT going to be picky on, but the other 2 I am.

Last time I had a logo done I paid a so called "Professional" designer hundreds of dollars for a logo and cards to be made. Well I got burnt on that one. The logo and stuff came back when he was done and had me look it over before finalizing everything. It looked OK but I could have done just as good of a job. It looked like he copied and pasted images together. Well come to find out that is just what he did and got an email from a hot rod shop and site that my logo couldn't be used because of copy-write infringement. I will not say who the guy was or the company he copied half of the logo from but I will say that I was NOT happy at all and will never just pick someone to do a logo and pay them unless I see some kind of portfolio of their work.

As for free, I have seen and had many people do graphic work for free when they had the time and had amazing results from it. Like Pompidou said, sometimes free isn't so bad and in the business world and getting started if you can find free, every little bit helps. Even starting a business you have to sometimes work for free. Education isn't always free but there are times that if you want to learn a trade or practice for a trade you can ask a friend or another company to ride along for a day or two and work for them for free to learn the business as long as they show you the ropes and how to run a business or do a certain type of trade. Therefor I see nothing wrong about it as long as no one gets taken advantage of.

Pompidou offered to do the logo and I am going to give him a shot. It will help him learn some and possibly build a portfolio in case he wants to start doing this as a side gig or full time. Sorry if anyone here was offended by his offer and me taking him up on it. BTW, I am almost at 15 posts to PM MissHannah and swinggal my info! Pompidou I will get that email out to you tomorrow since last night I did not get a chance to while I was at the fire department.
Thanks!

I am curious but who's doing or has done a bad design? Either Pompidou sent you a logo already and not me or I just dont see any picture on the thread. Sorry, I just gotta leave a smart a** remark back that's all. ;)
