eTc.......

hi, i've written a couple of tirades on the Lounge here about people not realizing there were some good u.s. producers of legit mil jackets...both times i put a link to leathercoatsetc.com since i purchased a g-1 and an a-2 from them

both were current milspec (the a2 was current standards, which include a side entry pocket, hidden thank goodness, and no neck hook)

the quality was very good, though i did have a little score mark from a sewing needle at the bottom of my g-1, and it was replaced, including the reshipping charges...

the sizes DO seem to be rather generous, like uswings sizes...i normally take a 44, and their g-1 size 44 was a nice fit, a tad full, but the a-2 required me to go down to a 42...if you call them up and bother them to put you through to someone who has it, or will get it for you, they will give you the armpit to armpit, as well as other, inch count sizes... i'd recommend that before choosing your size

that g-8 looks great online, and i can say their g-1 and a-2 both looked just as good in person as online...it may not be the 'reproduction'-grade version you'd spend $1000 for at lostworlds, eastman, or whoever...but if you don't need reproduction 50-year-old labels, and a stitch for stitch reproduction, i'd say you should love their jacket...i looked at several of the $500 to $1000 versions online and compared them to leathercoatsetc, and i think it would be a crime to pay the premium prices over leathercoats $148...unless, again, you are looking for stitch for stitch and label historical reproduction, which is definitely justifiable if that's what you are into

once again i bring up the point that leathercoatsetc 'union-made' jackets (which the military jackets are) are made by 'unite', which makes schott's jackets...you can just look at schott's prices to understand what a deal leathercoats offers...i doubt the workers slack off because they are making a leathercoats jacket vs. a schott

and, no, i don't work for leathercoatsetc, i just love that they can offer a good product where u.s.-made is paRT of the identity of the product, and at an affordable price that working people, like myseLf, can afford

love to hear if you choose them, and if or if not, how your jacket turns out

Any way you could post a picture of the A-2? They only show the front on their website, but not the back.

a-2...it's baaaaaaaCK...

weLL, actually i do not have the a-2 no more...it was cut virtually to the same pattern as the uswings milspec a-2, but about one size larger per size (and uswings runs pretty big, even milspec...though the milspec does have a more trim cut)...

i sent it back for a smaller size and then just decided to return it and get the uswings jacket...reason being that the leathercoatsetc jacket is current milspec, which means no throat hook, and hidden side entry pockets...i'm a bit old school and thought that if i had to resize it, might as well get the old style milspec

but don't worry about the back, one-piece...very nice construction all around...just seems they come one full to onefull-and-a-half size too big

i would have liked to keep it, since it is the true milspec for the late 2000's, but i've been seduced by the schott 184sm...so my money will go for that...ironically, both built by the same factory, 'unite'

anyway, the back, as well as the rest of the jacket, is old school, except the throat hook...and at least the side entry pockets are hidden under the patch pockets...for the price, it's a superb jacket
