I kept my last gi and am not sure why. It hangs in the closet, never moved. It was in great condition when I hung it up for good but definitely has several blood spots on it that bleach can’t completely remove.
I suspect training may be a little different now but haven’t stepped in a dojo for years. For the sake of current students I hope some of the old katas have been cleaned up.
Upon reflection, I would spend more time with kata and delve its disciplined focus,
which honing maturity more fully recognizes as essential practice.
I urge your reconsider departure and return dojo if physically able. Oyama spoke to the
middle aged and older karateka, encouraging life long devotion to art and style.
My background stemmed Okinawa and Japan, Shorin and its derived sibling Kyokushin;
missing out other forms such as Hapkido or Kenpo. And, of course, Gracie's Jiu Jitsu.
So much availed, what not seen.
