Hi, I was wondering if you guys could help me figure out what type of hat Andrew Eldritch from the Sisters of Mercy used to wear?

A very beat up one.

For future reference, there is an "Ask a Question, Get an Answer" thread at the top of the page that is generally useful for such inquiries.

It doesn't really conform to any particular style of fedora I know of. I would guess that it's perhaps some sort of western conversion.

Poor crumbled thing it is too. One could do this to any unfortunate hat I am afraid.

As already identified, it's clearly a (rather beaten up) Western hat. The 'dark cowboy' schtick was pretty popular on the Eighties goth scene. Something along the lines of an Akubra Cattleman, or maybe a Snowy River with the brim flattened, would be ideal I should think, though you might have to special order to get one in black.
