Well, you'd need financial backing aside from sponsorships -- most AM stations lose money, especially in smaller markets. If you'd intend on running old time radio programming, you;d need to pay licensing fees to the copyright holders. If you'd do original programmoing, you;d need to have some way to pay a decent wage to writers, actors, sound technicians, and engineers.
You can see where this is going, I fear. A genuine vintage-radio station is no longer possible in today's market. Sad, but true.
