Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about getting a pair of Alden All Weather Walkers. Anyone out there have a pair ? What has been your experience with them ? Are they good as daily wearers in casual settings ?

Thanks for any help that any of you can offer me on this one.

I have three pair of Alden Shoes. The All Weather walkers are new and I only wore them 3-4 times. I can't say enough good about Aldens, buy them and you'll thank me. I also love plain toe shoes. They work well any time and any place.

I happen to agree, we only have had one pair of Aldens here, but they are gunboats (plain toe brown) and heavy made, with some decent quality. Some may tend to think they are over priced, but I think they are worth what the price tag is, and you can shop eBay and get a deal if you look long enough. Aldens sure put shoes currently offered by popular shoe companies like Cole Haan, to shame! Same with most other popular shoe companies like Florsheim, Johnson & Murphy. I think Aldens also are far higher quality then Allen Edmonds, which seems to use a lesser quality sole, heel, and uppers leather. The AE shoes feel like cardboard and light weight compared to Aldens.

I must add all three pair of Aldens were via Ebay. One being discounted new and two like new. If the choices were only new full price shoes, I still go Aldens, I just won't have as many.

Thanks for the information so far. I currently have 6 pairs of various Aldens shoes and boots ranging from wingtips to 405 work boots. What got me onto Aldens about 10 years ago was the fit. I have always had problems finding shoes here in Germany that fit me well so when Aldens became easier to find here I started buying them. I must say that the price is justified by the quality and the reliable sizing. Ebay has been a good source for me as well as I know my Alden size and have not had any bad experiences with shoes that did not fit.

The reason that I like the all weather walkers is they appear to offer a high level of comfort. Is this your experience ironthinker ?

I too get no better fit than an Alden. A plain toe like the Walker is a "cant miss" on comfort and it's at the top of my list on looks. I'd say the problem is knowinig your color and leather.

I have plain toes in 1980 vintage shell cordovan Hanovers in #8 color. 1980 vintage black Florsheim and Alden in Brown and a very old pair of AEs in brown. The first three are at the top of my list of six I really love.

Thanks ironthinker, that is what I was hoping to hear. I will really have to start thinking about the color an d the leather, nthough I think that calf is what I have as a first choice. I will start trolling the bay now and see what comes up. Thanks for your help.

Glad I helped. All the colors look great so you can't miss. I'd go calf unless the preowned cordavan is in really mint shape, as cordavan doesn't conform as well to the seond owner.
