Akubra Adventurer too big

I got a brand new Adventurer Friday. I have never worn a hat on the regular and measured my head many times to come up with 63-64. So I ordered a 64. It’s too big. I rolled up a handkerchief and stuffed it behind the headband. And that works well. Are there better ways to down size and how long will it take to shrink down a size?

Foam insulation tape works really well as sizers behind the sweatband.

The Akubra imperial grade sweatband will usually shrink to your head size with activity. It will also, unfortunately, continue to shrink ever smaller if you sweat in it a lot.

If it is falling down to your ears, then it is too big and you should send it back. If it is a bit loose but not so much that you can spin the front beyond your forehead, then you should be okay with it. It will shrink.

Finally, using a center crease only (and not a c-crease or a teardrop) will help keep the size minimal, but a c-crease or teardrop will also let it rest on the top of your head and that might be a more secure fit.
