This is an older jacket. I bought this from a men’s shop in Covent Garden, London in 1993 when I was studying there. There were only 2 customers in the shop at the that time, me and the actor Terrence Stamp. We both complemented each other on our choices!
This jacket has kept me warm in the depths of the English, Scottish, Canadian and US winters. It’s lined with Alpaca wool and is very warm. I was a 43-44 chest size in the early 1990s. Now I’m a 46 so this old friend no longer gets used anymore. I currently have 5 Aero Leather jackets, hence the need to let go of a couple.
This jacket has been heavily used, as you can see from the photos. It’s broken in and then some! If you want a perfect jacket please don’t buy this one. It looks super cool if you like the battered roadworn look. One of the buttons is broken. It’s scratched, creased and generally heavily used. Given it’s condition it is being sold as is. No returns. “The Veste des Rallye successfully captures the period feel of 1950s and 60's motoring, first made by Aero in 1994 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the mighty Mini Cooper's first of four consecutive Monte Carlo Rally victories (although the French did manage to find a way to disqualify the winning Mini in 1966).
The Veste des Rallye is timeless, it's simple two pocket design, comfortable boxy cut and sheer practicality means this Horsehide jacket will soon become a trusted friend. Although cut to be worn comfortably over a lighter weight jacket or a heavy pullover, it can also be worn over as a jacket (rather than coat) but we advise sizing down if it's going to worn as jacket.
Each garment is made entirely by a single highly skilled machinist, lined in pure Alpaca Wool imported from Peru and finished with keyhole sewn button holes and hand-stitched buttons (these will not fall off in a couple of years!). A really simple easy to wear "over jacket".
We know a thing or two about the rigours of Classic Rallying ...... two Aero staff members, in an Aero Leather sponsored 1962 AC Cobra, won the 1993 Manx Mountain Challenge and the photo above shows Aero Leather's Mini Cooper S 277BRX competing in The 1996 Scottish Rally
