Aero Cafe Racer vs Board Racer Size

I'm looking for some advice. Maybe someone who owns both styles can help me.
Did you size up from a cafe racer to a board racer or choose the same size?
I am considering a sheene and a Buco J-100 from Aero based on the Board Racer pattern.

My cafe racer is a size 40.

I am looking for a jacket for casual wear not riding on a bike.

Should i size up or ad '1 inch to the side panels?

I am afraid when sizing up the shoulders are to wide.

I sized up from 42 to 44 and found the shoulders fit very similar between a 42 Cafe Racer and 44 Board Racer. I owned a 42 Board Racer and the fit was just too tight all the way around, while the 44 feels great while still being trim.

Insomnia, I would ask Thurston about the sizing, to make sure. They have a pretty good idea on Aero's sizing and what the customers (truly) want. Pawineguy is correct, I believe; Carrie (of Thurston) advised me in the past that I would need to size up from a CR to a BR - or rather, I am a sz. 40 in a Cafe Racer, which would make me a 42 in a Board Racer.

Size up, the shoulders on a board racer are much smaller than a standard Cafe Racer.

Size up is probably the best advice. But the best advice is to go through Insurrection for your purchase. Unfortunately, you have given your location as "far away," so we don't know which country you are in. If you are in the US, then go through Wade and Carrie and they will nail the fit with a test fit jacket.

I have both and sized up I the board racer. My aero sizing has been consistent but Carrie did warn me that the shoulders were narrow. The fit jacket confirmed that. If possible go through Thurston.

I saw that one too. PAWINWGUY, how do the measurements of your size 44 BR compare to that one, and how do the measurements of your size 42 Sheene compare to your 44 BR? BTW this is a great thread as I have become a great fan of this particular style of fitted jacket. I do think the individual fit of this style is more critical than with most others and is less forgiving of misfit. In other words, there is less range of variation allowable with a CR/BR than with a half belt.

This makes sense, as the Cafe Racer is designed to be a very broad shouldered and upper back riding jacket, while the Board Racer is more of a racing "shirt" with a very trim fit.

Thanks Chris; you confirmed my impression that the BR would be more form fitting in the shoulders than the CR, even one size up. There appears enough difference between the two so that one could easily own both without undue duplication. At least that's my rationalization of the possibility of my having both.

I just measured my size 42 Sheene again and this time came up with the following measurements:

pit-to-pit - 23.75"
shoulders - 19.75"
waist - 21"
bottom hem - 22" (flares slightly from the waist to the bottom)

I had 1" added to each side panel whereas I believe I recall your having 1/2" added to each side panel of yours. In any case, our two Sheenes appear close to identical in size, given potential variation between two individuals measuring the same jacket, and even the same individual measuring on a different day. [huh]

No doubt. Unfortunately (fortunately?) I have several closets full of both leather jackets and peacoats. I have been out of room for some time now.

My size 44 Sheene (compared to the 44 Board Racer) comes in at p2p--24.5"; Shoulders--20"; Bottom hem/waist (no flare)--21".

Does the Board Racer taper from shoulders to waist like the Cafe Racer does? The CR has a very trim fit at the waist in comparison to the shoulder measurement: I'm wondering if the Board Racer is similar, especially if the BR is sized up in comparison to the CR.

The BR does taper slightly but no where near as much as the CR. The BR is trim all over, not just in be waist.

I suspect the shoulder measurement is the critical factor with a Board Racer pattern, making a fit jacket all the more relevant. Thie is particularly illustrated by @pawineguy's earlier post #10 illustrating that the shoulder measurement of the size 44 Board Racer is still smaller even when sizing up from a size 42 Sheene/Cafe Racer pattern:

42 Sheene (Cafe Racer) = 23.5" pit to pit and 19.5" shoulder
44 Board Racer = 23.5" pit to pit and 18.75" shoulder

@pawineguy has probably given us more raw information regarding sizing of Aero jackets than any other single Lounge member.

Do both the CR and BR flare slightly out at the bottom of the jacket? It appears that it's most prominent when the jacket is unzipped. If so is the flare about equal on both jackets? Thanks.
