Aero Board racer fit help

I've been working with Carrie (who is awesome) unfortunately they don't have a size 46 fit jacket, so we used a 44. I'm 6'4, 230 usually wear a 46 XL suit and 38-40 pants. Not the leanest guy.

I had to squeeze myself into the 44- based on the
Pics Carrie suggested a 46 in the BR as the 48 would be another 4" wider in the chest which she thought would be too big.

I'm not looking for a very tight fit (no riding, casual wear). I'm sure Carrie is right, but I'm still concerned it will be super tight.

Thanks for any thoughts! In the meantime, Carrie is sending a 46 half belt to try on.

I think you will prefer the HB.I think the Boardracer has a narrower shoulder width as part of its design.

You may find the 46 HB to be a little too large; but it comes down to what you're comfortable with. I'm not far off from your measurements at 6'2", 230lbs, size 38 jeans and XL tshirt in a size 44 HB. When I was in Thurston Bros earlier this year, I tried on both the 44 HB and 44 BR and found the BR to be too snug an would have ultimately needed a 46, but the 44 HB fit me quite nicely.

I own no Board Racer, so take what I say with a bit of caution, but from the measurements I have seen on the BR, its pattern is designed super tight fitting. A size 40 has like 20.5"-21" pit to pit. So it's 1-2" on top of your actual chest size if you order true to size. That is extremely tight. If you want a relaxed fit, you should definitely size up to an 48. Carrie is great at her job and a 46 will fit you if she says so, but it won't be a relaxed fit. They are not really into relaxed fits at Thurston, they advice people to go down two sizes in the HWM.

A side-thought; maybe you are tackling the horse from the wrong side. You want a casual fitting jacket but picked a very non-casual-all-business style with the Board Racer (no handwarmer pockets, un-subtle-on-top-of-sleeve-zip sleeves, stand collar). If I was you, I'd order a Highwayman true to size or maybe one size down. Great, casual relaxed fitting jacket, timeless design.

Thanks everybody, appreciate the insights - blue that's a gorgeous jacket and great fit. HB seems like the obvious choice though I really do like the look of the BR with mandarin collar (just not the 44 on me!!! Lol).



Jacket junkie - great insight into comparing the pit-to-pit to actual size to jacket size, never thought of that.
I agree it looks wrong and should as it was slightly painful as I put it on haha.

Will be great to try on the 46 HB - since the dimensions are close to a 48 BR - understood the generally desired fit isn't loose for a BR, but maybe what I'm looking for. Thanks

The HB will fit you better- it is all about styles that suit you as an individual.
This BR fits you fine until you zip it up-then it is too tight from the photo's

I have to agree with what's been posted above. A Half-Belt or even a Highwaymay should make a more relaxed every day jacket for you. The Half-Belt (mine is a 30's HB black in steer size 44 from Insurrection) is such a versitle jacket it's hard to disagree with. The 30's cut appears just a bit slimmer than a 50's model. I also prefer the top of the back V yoke on the 30's. I also own a size 42 4-pocket Cafe Racer and it's snug, very similar to a board racer. They serve two purposes, and I wear and enjoy them both. Stay tuned for some reviews of both of these to come to a FL near you shortly.

Your other option might be a Cafe Racer that is designed with broader shoulders than the Board Racer. My guess for the OP would be a size 44 Cafe Racer but recommend asking Carrie, including telling her how you want it to fit, keeping in mind a fit slightly too large will still make you smile but slightly too small ...

Maybe ask Carrie to send you a size 44 Cafe Racer. For you the only change might be an inch or two added to body and sleeves. Can also add a bit to the circumference of the waist if necessary as I did for my 42 Sheene.

I suspected that a 44 Cafe Racer would be a good starting point for you. 2" added to the circumference of the waist would definitely give you a bit more room in the lower torso. As far as I can determine body length looks OK but sleeves appear maybe a couple of inches too short. Maybe consider a Highwayman collar to convert the Cafe Racer to a Sheene. I know - my bias in favor of the Sheene showing; sorry @Monitor.

Agree with Fanch about the sleeves, and any more "room" in the body of this jacket will defeat the "look" of the Cafe Racer style. It's meant to be fitted, that one is a looking a bit loose to my eyes.

and since these CR appears to fit long-ish, be careful where the zipper starts, it should be high enough so you don't have to unzip it every time you sit (unless dual end zips)
