ACTON Lambskin A-2

I bought this jacket today (on sale for $249, MSRP $549) and while I really like how wide the collar is, the leather seems to be extremely thin (though super supple). So thin in fact that you could bet to rip it with little effort (stretching it gently you could hear the fibers crackle).

I wonder if this is how lamb-leather A-2s are or what oz. should I be looking for when purchasing a lamb A-2. Or should I avoid lamb altogether?

Also, I just checked the tags and I noticed this jacket is made in India  (apart from where ACTON usually makes their jackets - Canada). Looks like I'll be returning it tomorrow.

I would return the jacket . I am unaware of any 'proper' A2 made in that material but I don't know much compared to others here.
Also ,their description is misleading, it just isn't an A2.

This is an A-2

This is an A-2, I have no idea what you bought. Dare I use the "F" word?

Ok....

Lambskin also rips more easily than many jacket leathers. It's valued for its softness, not its toughness. More typical (and the only authentic) A-2 materials are goat, horse and cow.

I agree with the others that the design of your jacket is too much changed to warrant calling it an A-2. Flight jacket, sure. Bomber jacket (a more casual, fashiony name), sure. But a true A-2 has a plain leather collar and only plain patch pockets in front (often with side entry hand warmer slots, but purists poopoo even those).

Gotcha. It's being returned as we speak.

I wish there was a sticky on here for "What a real A2 looks like" with that image. There are so many images/variations on here that it gets a bit confusing.

Thanks everyone.

I am glad to read you are getting your money back. 250 is too much for such a thin hide. Lambskin is thin and soft but should not be like paper.
Do some reading of the various threads and you will find an alternative.

Here is what an a2 looks like.

Would I be correct in getting the above jacket from www.flightjacket.com?
It looks the same, though I'm not certain.

And are those two leathers the same?
Both jackets are horsehide. The jacket on the left is a size 42 Real McCoy I purchased from Ebay. A nice broken in hide but the sleeves are a bit too long for me.

The one on the right is a Gibson & Barnes.

The McCoy is for sale is anyone is interested. :)
