Just heard from the UK TV station that our slot featuring wartime cooking is to be shown on 2nd Jan, that's this Wednesday on ITV on a TV programme called 'This Morning'or as everyone else knows it 'Phil and Fern'.
Hopefully we won't be portrayed as loonies, but you never know! Either way tune in for a giggle.

When ITV programme “This Morning” needed a WW2 style home as a location for their mini series “A Taste of History” it was our very own 1940s retro couple Edna and Harry who were their first choice.
“It was really wonderful to be featured on the programme” said Harry “as although we live in a modern house in a modern city inside our house you can put Benny Goodman on the gramophone and it is 1940 again.
For ITV to choose our house for the filming means we must be getting the look right”. The aim of the programme is to take the viewer on a step back in time to show how our ancestors ate.
The WW2 section was filmed in Harry & Edna’s modern but 1940s decorated home and they were joined by TV chef Phil Vickery and wartime home economist Marguerite Patten OBE.
One of the aims of the programme is for Phil Vickery to unearth something from the culinary past for the WW2 programme, Phil created corn beef hash, but not as we know it today. “For me” said Edna “to have Phil Vickery and my wartime hero Marguerite Pattern in my kitchen, cooking on my stove was truly fantastic, the food was delicious and both Phil and Marguerite were lovely”.
“The corn beef hash, made with pickled red cabbage, corn beef and a potato was usual but tasted lovely”.
Wartime cooking is nothing new to Edna; she is in demand all over the country, giving lectures on the wartime 1940s kitchen.
“I find it is the simple, back to basics approach with wartime cooking that appeals to people today” says Edna. “During the war, the housewife would not have time to do meals with long preparation times, so I have copied these ideas and can cook a wartime meal in the same time that it takes to cook a ready meal from the supermarket”.
During the filming Phil also wanted to know what it was like to live in the 1940s, so Edna soon had Phil on his knees cleaning the carpet with left over tea leaves.
While all these domestic chores were going on, Harry retreated to his Anderson air raid shelter, which they just happen to have in their back garden. Harry was soon joined by Phil, who also believed it was better
to hide from the daily 1940s household tasks.
A “taste of history” is to be shown on ITV’s This Morning on the 2nd January 2008.
