A Portis Beaver Blend

I walked into Goodwill today and saw this for $9.00. I'm not a cowboy so I had to get rid of the Cattlemans crease and do a more traditional fedora semi-diamond crown. The felt was in perfect condition and the sweatband and liner also very clean. I don't see that many Portis hats although they do come up periodically on the bay. Nothing super special about it, other than it states it's a beaver blend on the liner. Well, I guess the price was sorta special for that quality of a hat.

Man, that Goodwill down your way must be about a hundred times better than the one up here. A vintage Portis, in apparently very good condition, for nine bucks? That just wouldn't happen at my local Goodwill. There's an outside (way outside) chance such an item might turn up at the Value Village, and the odds are somewhat better at my favorite little thrift shop (the name and location of which I'll keep to myself and my avaricious little heart, thank you very much), but even there, where I've found several nice vintage items, I've yet to find a good hat.

It's a sharp-lookin' lid. Nice, full crown, like they oughta have, I say.

I'll take another shot of the sweatband later on today and put the pics in the Portis thread.

It was a good week for me at Goodwill. I got this hat and the jacket, combined cost for both was $11.75 due the jacket being 50% off and then getting the senior discount. Then earlier this week I found a pair of like new florsheim wing tips for $7.00 and a wool-silk blend Canali sport jacket for $9.00.
