i was bored tonight so i decided to write a poem dedicated to my hat this is the result:)

my life for my hat
a crown for a fool
brings me cheap beer
it guides and romances
see the lacivious glances
darting like young mice
but only for the hat

A toast...

Though my wife should leave me for the banker,
my friends desert me for the brewer,
and my dogs abandon me for the butcher,
as long as I have my hat and what lies beneath it,
I shall consider myself a man in good company. ;)

I believe it was compliment number twenty nine,
it’s the one that has stuck in my mind….
When a young lady who I deemed half my age,
said I look like an actor of the stage…
She checked me out with a smile I adored,
I will return to this grocery store….

I LONG TO SMOKE A FINE CIGAR
TAKE A GLASS OF BRANDY, SLOWLY SIP IT.
WHILE LOUNGING IN MY MINT CONDITION,
NEVER WORN AND YET MOTH EATEN WHIPPET.

THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF THIS LIFE
ARE NEVER QUITE AS DIM.
AS THE SIGHT OF A FRESHLY OPENED BOX
AND A POCK MARKED STINGY BRIM.

IT’S A GAMBLERS LIFE, WE LIVE MY FRIEND.
THOSE STOUT OF HEART WHO BOX.
ON COMPUTER KEYBOARDS FOR FEDORAS.
MADE BY STETSON, DOBBS AND KNOX.

SO KEEP YOU EYES PEELED, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS,
DON’T LET THEM MAKE YOU A FOOL.
“ARE THERE ANY RIPS, TEARS, STAINS OR ODORS.
AND IS THIS HAT MADE OF FUR OR WOOL?”

chet atkins classic

i remember when chet atkins sang this song, one of the very few that he would...he usually allowed his guitar to speak his words....

he always wore a hat when he played this song. It was wriiten by Mr Atkins for his father....i hope you enjoy the words....

When I was young, my Dad would say,
“Come on Son let’s go out and play!”
Sometimes it seems like yesterday.

And I’d climb up the closet shelf
When I was all by myself,
Grab his hat and fix the brim,
Pretending I was him.

No matter how hard I try,
No matter how many tears I cry,
No matter how many years go by,
I still can’t say goodbye.

He always took care of Mom and me.
We all cut down a Christmas tree.
He always had some time for me.

Wind blows through the trees,
Street lights, they still shine bright.
Most things are the same,
but I miss my Dad tonight.

I walked by a Salvation Army store,
Saw a hat like my daddy wore,
Tried it on when I walked in.
Still trying to be like him.

No matter how hard I try,
No matter how many years go by,
No matter how many tears I cry,
I still can’t say goodbye.

Wow! How beautiful!
I had no idea Chet Atkins ever sang a single note?!

These lyrics make "Old Shep" sound like a polka! This may the first time a keyboard has been ruined because of tears falling into it?!

...An incredibly beautiful sentiment! :fedora:

At the risk of running afoul with the music police...you can listen to the song here. I first heard Chet perform this on Austin City Limits back in the early 1990's. It became an immediate favorite of mine and definitely a tear jerker.
