Well, after waiting semi patiently for a week, my first fedora arrived today. it's the one from the auction I posted about before, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8265413738&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
I was so excited. I tore through the plethora of packing peanuts and removed the vintage Stetson box, in excellent condition. I lifted the lid, and ta da!

It fits pretty much perfectly, I may go down to a 6 7/8, but, then again, I just got my hair cut super short on the sides, so, I won't grow into it, but, my hair will. But regardless, I think it looks great. Here's me modeling...

I know, I know, I look like i'm about 9 in it, but i'm 23 I swear.

And here's me catching up on some reading.

Or maybe i'm just modelling the side with the feather, by the way, is there a special term for the feather in a hat? Is it like a.. garnish? So, I know everyone's like "OK, why is this guy going nuts over a hat?" But it's my first one, and I couldn't think of any other forums to share about it. :cheers1:

OK, i'm all done. So, what do you all think? Did I do good?

i think you did good! I don't usually go for a narrow brim but it suits your face and haircut. Good purchase

I like to too. I like how you made it yours: you kept the feather in, you perched it on your head in your own style, and you left the brim up. Well done.

Oh, and I must agree, you do look like a teenager in that hat!

Yeah yeah :p But some Ladies really have a thing for a guy with a baby face.

I left the brim up because I haven't decided how/if I want to shape the brim. I tried flipping it mostly down but one side, then just the front, I guess i'm just experimenting. Those pics were just "out of the box". But now that I look, it does look alright left up.. I might just lower the front, I dunno... :)

I am always tweaking my hats: up, down, and different bashes.

And yes, the baby faced thing worked for me for a while, but now that I am knocking on 40..? It's wearing a little thin. :)

You mean it won't work forever??! Dang! I'll just have to keep a few cards up my sleeve.

At the moment I have it all up, except for the front left is down. I like it.

Very stylish!

That hat suits you very well - not everyone can pull off a stingy brim so well (as Andy and others mentioned), including myself. Have some fun with making it your own and get ready for people to notice you - in a very good way!

Well thank you so much gentlemen for the good reviews. Now I definitely have no reason to fell self conscious about wearing it about (not that I do).

I have two other hats from eBay on the way. I had posted them previously in one of the threads that vanished the other night, so, here they are again.

The Homburg definitely has a small brim, so, I think it'll look great too. Is this one I have on in the pics classified as a Homburg? Or is it more than just a thin brim that gives it that classification? The other hat I have coming, the beaver fur one I don't know what i'm going to do with.

One more question.. are most of these type hats beaver fur felt? On eBay, some say they are and some don;t. Are the Stetsons beaver too?

Thanks!

Well i'm definately looking forward to the new hats! Especially that Homburg, I can't wait to see the color in person. The other one i'm not too sure about... but it was a good deal, I just need to see it in person.

Good looking hat.

BTW, the feathers are called 'panache'. Pronounced 'panahsh'. At least that is what my haberdasher uncle told me when I was a child.

Yep, here's the official report: Panache

MM - you lucky dawg!

You're working on a very healthy addiction there, MM - and lookin' good!

Do you realize how fortunate you are to be a 6 7/8 to 7 size??? Those of us in the popular range of 7 1/4 - 7 3/8 will be forever battling for those gems on eBay. There are a lot of bargains in your size...some real choice collectibles! You can probably pick up a Whippet, Stratoliner, Open Road, and still have change from a $100!!!

Oh yeah, unless you're a jazz or blues musician (or an aging ska dude...), the stingies start to look smaller as the girth gets larger! I have a few really nice stingies, but wear them only when I have a guitar in hand...

It's good to see folks who can pull off the small brim. I've got a number of stingy brimmed hats that belonged to my grandfather, but I find myself gravitating more to a medium to wide brimmed hat. As far as beaver content, it's kind of difficult to tell without seeing the hat in person, unless it says somewhere directly on the hat. Could be beaver, could be rabbit, could be a blend. You can easily tell if it's wool, though!
