I love the the statement:

"He went on to say that the amendment was designed to protect the citizens against a potentially oppressive federal government. "

Doesn't this ruling indicate that even our federal government has the potential of becoming oppressive?

See, now I have to buy Monty Python and the Holy Grail just to watch the peasant being oppressed scene, which is what this reminds me of.
There goes another 30 bucks down the toilet. :p

Oh yeah, and because of the oh, so wise law, they have absolutely no problems in D.C. No violent crimes commited with a handgun, no rampant gang problems. D.C. is the safest city in America.

What a load of pure, unadulterated bullshit.

That judge must be smoking the same stuff Marion Barry does. I think he keeps his stash for him.

Here I thought that our own 9th District was the most leftist court in the land ...

Sergei, I'm not a gun owner, but do you think that this judge's FIRST language is english? The second amendment reads pretty clearly to me. It doesn't make exceptions..anywhere. Must be the "new English" sort of like the "New Math"

Well, as much of a pile of crap as this DC law is, be thankful that MOST places aren't as strict.

Here in Canuckistan, not only do you need seperate COURSES, not just permits but weekend long COURSES, for hunting, regular firearms, and what they call 'restricted' firearms (All handguns fit into this category), but the government has spent 1 Billion dollars on a mandatory registration program.

All guns must be registered at a cost of $25.00 EACH. On top of that, you must state your reason for owning said guns. Defence is not a good enough reason. Collecting is only in special cases. Target Shooting, if not competitive, is not a good reason. to be a competitive shooter, you must compete in 2 tournaments per year.

That's not all. You must have your SPOUSE's permission to own guns; and he or she must sign off on this fact.

The list goes on, and on and on...including the 6 month wait time for a license card after you've taken the course, and individual carrying permits required for each firearm (I think--though I am not positive on the specifics). The permit does say exactly where you are allowed to go: House to Range, house to Cabin, etc. THere will be no House to Friend to Range--that's a no no.

So, really, you guys have it pretty good down there :)

Regards,

Craig
