I need help with a 95 year old lady who is having a special Birthday.
Italian from Italy.
Does anyone know of a great Italian singer with songs from maybe her teen years.
Fluent in Italian. 1914 or so maybe?

I know Dean has a bunch but more suggestions. Something maybe that could be found like at Best Buy or Barnes and Noble.

You are to me
the world's most beautiful
and a deep love
binds me to you

you are to me

Your smile shines
sweet on your beautiful face
your eyes and sincere

Is this in English what they are saying in this song? If so perfect if so. Her honey passed and he was older than her.

Ok, I think I have a new passion. I will be buying these songs for myself. Have no clue what they are saying but hey...I know gorgeous when I hear it.

Does she like opera?
If she does I recommend Amelita Galli-Cursi(1882-1963)

"Italian operatic coloratura soprano. One of the best regarded singers of the early 20th century".

1914 or so maybe?

So, if she's turning 95, she was born in 1914 and she'd have been 16 years old in 1930, right? :) Would Italian music from around 1930 be what you're looking for?

Probably from time frame from 16 years to age 40 would be right. Youth, memories etc.
Yes, she would like opera. Seriously she is Italian Catholic sweet as sugar. I can just sit and listen to her for hours. Cooks like a dream and is fiesty too. lol
Lived by herself till a few years back.
this is fun. I have been listening to Italian songs all day.
We should have vintage theme day around here more often. lol
thank you all. It was music or a pretty shawl or both.

Ezio Pinza, (1892-1957) the great voice from Broadway's "South Pacific"; Frankie Laine, born Frank Paul LoVecchio, recorded hit after hit in the 1940s and '50s, tunes such as, "Jealously", "That's My Desire", "High Noon" and theme from TV's "Rawhide";

Vic Damone, was born Vito Farinola in 1928 (Damone is his mother's maiden name) Damone has recorded some 2,000 songs. Some of his many hits include: "I Have But One Heart", and "On The Street Where You Live", each song sold over 3 million copies;

Night club performer Jimmy Roselli, that other talented singer from Hoboken, continues to wow audiences at Trump Plaza. Rosselli's life has been an exciting one, so much so, Hollywood is in the process of filming his life story, "Standing Room Only", starring John Travolta.

Bobby Darin (Walden Robert Cassato) (1936-1972) started out as a rock & roll singer in the 1950s, but his version of "Mack The Knife" made him a favorite of all generations.

Louis Prima, combined New Orleans blues, rock, jazz and pop to create his own unique brand of music, a style that is still revered by his faithful followers. Julius La Rosa recorded the hit song, "Eh, Cumpari".

Sergio Franchi (born Francesco Benenato 1932-1990) helped fill the void left behind by the great voices of Caruso and Lanza.

Don Cornell (1930) (Luigi Francisco Varlaro) was as good as the best and proved it by recording 12 gold hits in 12 years (1950 to 1962) among them: "It Isn't Fair", "I'm Yours", "Hold My Hand," and "Heart Of My Hearts".

1. Does she like music?

2. How does she play music? Vinyl? Cassette? CD?

A thought - a coffee table picture book of Italy? That may make the interesting stories of her youth start to flow.

Amelita Galli-Curci was Caruso's most famous leading lady, a great Italian soprano. Giovanni Martinelli (tenor) was a big star in the 30's. Beiamino Gigli succeeded Caruso as the leading tenor at the Met in the 20's and 30's. Renata Scotto was big in the 60's and 70's, Renata Tebaldi was huge during the 50's and 60's.
And let's not forget the most gorgeous woman who ever lived, the magnificent Mirella Freni, who sang with Pavorotti and Domingo early in their careers.

well, Nona had a wonderful surprise party. Bought music and a shawl. Turned out perfect as she had been looking for her shawl the day before and couldn't find it and was upset. Her shawl along with many other things including her home she lived in forever were destroyed last year in the Hurricane in Galveston.
Like a typical Italian mother and grandmother she got all concerned about how to feed all those people and suggested she needed to cook then and there.
As it was a surprise all was prepared ahead of time. :eusa_clap
95 years young and sharp as a tack. Happy Birthday to a sweet grand lady.
Thank you all for the suggestions.

I'm Italian!!!!

I'm italian so I think I can help.

The first singer you posted is the best italian woman singer ever, but the era was around 60s. Her name is Mina!!! She is still working!

The first song is about a woman who loves a man who loves another woman instead (and this last one is not in love with him...a tragedy ;) )!!!

Another italian singer I love from the 50s is Fred Buscaglione.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHyqYAbWiMY

But make a search becouse this is a love song but there are also other styles!

Natalino Otto is the same period more or less...but I don't know him.

Another very nice is Domenico Modugno, the "father" of "Volare".

If you want more I'll help!!!!

B.
