7 3/8 round = 7 1/4 Long Oval?

Stupid question but I can't measure my head at the moment..

I have 2 hats. One's a 7 1/4 round and it's a tad snug but nothign serious. The other is a 7 3/8 round and it's perfect from front to back but if I push in the sides to make it a long oval (which I think is my correct head shape) it's too loose.

So would that make me a 7 1/4 long oval?

7 1/4 regular oval, wide oval, mid oval, long oval, and extra long oval = 7 1/4 circumference but they fit different for different shaped heads.
You may very well be a 7 1/4 long oval, but some hat manufactures can run small. That's why its more important to buy a hat based on circumference verses stated size. The reason a 7 3/8 might fit you better is because its circumference is larger. If you wear a 7 3/8 regular oval and the hat fits you front to back, but has big gaps on the sides, your a long oval.

Could be, but your best bet is to measure. Two different hats in two different sizes, even if they are the same brand and same model could have variations that provide a different fit. I have four Akubra Camp Drafts and they are all different. So if you are trying two hats that may be two different brands as well as different models they may not be your best sizing reference. There are a lot of long oval folks out there, so you may very well be.

I am thinking most dollar stores, or WalMart could sell you a cloth tailours tape if you wanted to confirm your noggins circumference.

Let us know what you find.
