50s jackets

Hey Guys, anyone know what kind of jackets where available in the mid 50s?
I really like the jackets the "hoodlums" wore in Rebel Without a Cause. They look sort of like A2s. Any ideas?

In my searching on ebay, I have seen quite a few motorcycle jackets from the 40's and 50's. Many in horsehide leather too. They are often simply reffered to as "motorcycle jackets". If that ain't hoodlum, I don't know what is. [huh]

i have my fathers leather jacket that he bought around 1955 at Sears...it is a bomber style in horsehide....black in color....

Is it a "Hercules" brand jacket? I think that was Sears' brand name.

yes it is a hercules...i just checked....and it is dark brown in color....i remember that sometime in the seventies my parents sent it our to be refurbished...redied i suppose....it looks very vintage though....i would have to call it a civilian a-2 style because it has hand warmers pockets....

It is suppose to be size 44 but when i put in on, it is very very snug...most of my modern 44 jackets are cut a lot looser than this....too bad, i wouuld love to wear it....

as a side note, i still have two of my shirst that i wore in kindergarten and both of my children wore them once to school. I made them take a note to tell the teacher about there shirt...they were so touched by the action and by the vivid colors and condition they were in....

now they are back in the box....until grand kids...

So basically those jackets are just variations of the A2?
I really don't like the popular motorcycle jacket for the 50s hoodlum look. That's almost more 80's looking to my eyes.

I see my dad's pictures from 1954 or 55 and there he is in a white t shirt and jeans with a cuff rolled up....he wore this because he was poor....that is all he could afford...and then my grandmother (his mother-in-law) bought this jacket for him.

Yeah, I would call him a greaser...pomadore hair with a duck's butt in the back...what a cool guy...

72 years old now and still in great health...no hair to greae anymore....

Those photos must be awesome! My Mum was 17 in 1955, she used to have all the original rock'n'roll 45's (my uncle somehow managed to get hold of them) and dated bodgies back then. She has some interesting and often funny stories to tell about greasy Tony Curtis haircuts, cool guys cruising around the local milk bar on Triumph Twins and BSA Lightnings, and all the mischief you could get up to at the movies back then.

And you had to have one of those leather jackets.

i have a pretty healthy collection of 45's that came from someone in town instead of my parents....i haven't looked at those for years....

i don't remember who has the albums...my brother or I ....but there is one guy that I really liked...buddy knox...and check this out...thank goodness for google...

what may be peculiar about all of this...my parents were country music lovers and so am I...staring with Mother Maybelle..Jimmie Rodgers and all the way up till today...

including Marty Stuart...whom I believe is trying to preserve the hillbilly rock culture...

about 15 or 16....i had longer hair and i can remember running my fingers through my hair and coming up with a few between my fingers....

Mine fell out en masse when I was around 26 or 27. The first time I had peeling sunburn on the top of my head was a real defining moment in my life.

LOL my grandfather on my mother's side, where we are supposed to get the gene from was bald in '41 when he was 27. 3 more years left....

Fred, these are the kind of jackets I associate with the 50's:

These are Aero jackets, top quality and expensive, but there are numerous other makes that have models in this vein. Here in Australia, Stag Leather was famous for making both these style of jackets and was a favourite with bodgies.

My first leather jacket, which I bought when I was 16 and still looks great, is of the second type, a 'Brando'-style (named for obvious reasons!).

Mark, I used to watch the Grammy awards and similar award shows, but gave up because most of the so-called artists couldn't perform live. Their 'talent' was all auto-tuned behind the recording console. But when it comes to the country artists, man, they always shine.
