Would be great, but original clothes are usually small because people were more skinny fit and not as tall as nowadays.

Could this be a womens' suit? It's buttoned on the 'wrong' side. Or are/were British suits for men set up this way?

well spotted. British men's suits button left over right same as US ones.

Nope. It's a man's suit with normal "male" buttoning. Check the photos again: it's unbuttoned and just overlapping the side with buttonholes.
On the third to last photo you see the buttonholes on the correct side.

However the ticket pocket is on the "wrong" side. At least first time I've seen that. Overall the suit looks IMO newer than 70's. Might be already late 80's or 90's.
