According to their measurements, the jacket measures 48inches at the chest but the trousers have a 33 inch waist. That seems a very big difference.

Yeah, an 11 inch drop* is pretty extreme. Standard suits sizing comes with a 7 inch drop. I used to have a 10 inch drop in my prime but these days it's gone down to 8. *difference in measurements between chest and waist

Two things:

1) Look how badly the trousers have been taken in. Waistband is a mess. I suspect originally a 34-35 inch waist.

2) "Bold Look Era" Drape. The jacket is cut very big, esp in the chest and shoulders, though length was also exaggerated. It's probably meant to fit a chest smaller than 44. This below from a GGG clothes catalogue from 1947.

It's lovely. The moths think so too, apparently! Only on the lapels would be a more visible spot sadly …

One would have to shorten the hem of the jacket to make the holes dissapear. I think the overall length alows this without looking too odd.
