I’m wearing my Nick’s packers today. Still working on getting them broken in. They put too much pressure on the bone on the inside of my ankle, requiring alternative lacing to relieve pressure there. I’ve never had this problem with any other boot, and I really hope it resolves with wear.
Going with the old standard black harness Iron Rangers: the gateway drug of boot collecting. It’s funny; I have two pairs of IRs, have had both for 8 or 9 years. The amber harness pair broke in almost immediately and are as comfortable as sneakers. This pair took over 5 years of admittedly...
I’ve really been enjoying this thread, and I’ve recently had a few events crop up that have reinforced how important my family is to me, so I thought I’d contribute a little if you’ll all indulge me.
Left to right: my daughter, my oldest boy, daughter’s boyfriend, my youngest, and my wife...
Having to sell this one, alas. After my weight loss it's just too big and I'm told it probably can't be reblocked. Hopefully someone else can put it to good use...
So back over the summer I was looking for a hat for hiking that could take some abuse and ordered this Campdraft. Soon thereafter I found a great deal on a Bushman and bought it and actually forgot all about the Campdraft order until it showed up on my doorstep yesterday. Thing is, the Bushman...
That is a fantastic hat! Mine are both newer Strattons, so I don't know much about the quality of the felt or how well it would take to reshaping. They are, as has been noted elsewhere, quite stiff.
Thank you all for the input!
I'm not against wearing them as they are, I guess I just wasn't sure if that was done. Any ideas what kind of bands/ribbons would look good with these?

Cleaning out a closet the other day I came across my uniform hats from a gig with the NPS years ago, and what with my recent weight loss and all they actually fit again! Any suggestions for ways to reuse these? And I know that I cannot wear the NPS hat band, so I'd welcome any hat band/ribbon...
Just received my first Akubra! I've been doing a lot more hiking and backpacking and wanted something that could take some abuse, so I picked up a Bushman. I'm pretty pleased with how the crease turned out!

Just a quick update: I told Bob about the situation so my new hat will fit properly. Apparently I've lost about 1/2" of circumference. I've added bits of folded tissue paper strategically to the rest of my hats and that seems to have worked. They will be wearable if not quite as comfortable...
Thank you all for the kind words and advice. I really do appreciate it. I keep reminding myself that no matter the little inconveniences it was definitely worth it.

I expected to have to buy new pants, shirts, etc., but it never occurred to me (foolish, perhaps) that things like hats, rings, shoes would also cease to fit. I have lost over 110lbs and it has altered my appearance considerably. This is the closest I have to a before/after:
I will try the...
So after years of half-hearted efforts to lose weight, I finally made one that clicked. I've lost a considerable amount since the first of the year, and while this is an undeniable overall good, there's a problem. Nothing fits me anymore. This includes my hats. A couple of my hats that were...
